Default Perfection at Keeneland

Juan Vargas has defied all conventional logic winning with both of his only mounts-to-date this meet at Keeneland, taking the fourth on Beauchamp Viceroy going wire to wire after really quick early fractions over 1 1/8 on poly, then a startling middle move in the sixth at 1 1/16 on grass, a move that seemed doomed to fail - yet both horses, trained separately, stayed-on like good things. At least the first one normally runs on the lead...but still

Anyone else who saw them think it was odd?

The move he made in the sixth race was insane. . . Couldn't believe the horse kept going.

I agree. It's not like the fractions were slow.
Then he pulled away in the last 16th again to win by 4.

He must be a Kent Desormeaux disciple.. although KD's last to first move down the backstretch, never seem to hold on.

Just saw the replays for both races. Very bold move by the jock in either race. He is either a horse whisperer or he is carrying a buzzer.

Same situation happened at Del Mar last year. Hector Berrios wins his first 2 races with big longshots for Ruben Cardenas/ Green Grass Stable (Ken Rudolph).
