Penny Chenery on IHA
Excellent article here:
http://www.theatlantic.com/entertain...egrity/257714/ Money quote in talking about O'Neill: I think it is regrettable. And it isn't the horse's fault and this is probably a very good horse. I don't know Mr. Reddam personally but I think he should be embarrassed that the trainer he has chosen does not have a clean record. Paul |

Riva Ridge
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vau...6477/index.htm
"Out of the morning mist shrouding the barns at Saratoga loomed the figure of FBI Agent Jim Glavin and two members of the New Jersey State Police. "Hi there, we'd like to talk to you," Glavin said to Edward Sweat, a groom mucking out the stall next to Riva Ridge. All last week Feebies, Jersey troopers and gumshoes for the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau were investigating racing's latest cause clbre, the drugging of Riva Ridge, winner of the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont and prime contender for Horse of the Year. In Washington, Representative Claude Pepper of Florida was making noises about a congressional inquiry. The reason for all the sleuthing and politicking was the Aug. 5 running of the Monmouth Invitational in New Jersey in which Riva Ridge ran a disappointing fourth. Last week, to all sorts of consternation, Mrs. John Tweedy of Meadow Stable announced that laboratory tests she had ordered the day after the race revealed that her horse had been given a tranquilizer. What made Mrs. Tweedy's announcement genuinely sensational was that she made it in Saratoga at the climax of the traditional race meeting that is supposed to represent all that is gracious and elegant in the sport. The announcement of the drugging, some felt, was akin to dropping a bird in the punch bowl at the Turf Writers Ball, and, as one horseman complained of Mrs. Tweedy and her French-Canadian trainer, Lucien Laurin, "Why didn't they just keep their mouths shut? The public already thinks the sport is riddled with larceny." I guess she just can't help herself. |

It seemed to me that he was rather gracious about it simply saying he thought she'd like how his barn is run.

Let Douge Up!
Both Gary Sciacca(Gary Sciacca returned from a 120-day suspension on Thursday and promptly went to the winner's circle with the first horse he saddled. The trainer was suspended for a milkshaking incident at his barn that occurred while he was away on vacation. The actual milkshake, which Sciacca says was about to be administered erroneously to a horse one stall over from the intended recipient, never took place. He was held accountable by the Trainers Responsibility Rule.)
and Chuck Simond as have all the trainers with any kind of stable size have had a number of violations and suspensions! Douge O'Neill's takes responsibility for his barn and runs a healthy prosperous stable and was found to not have been "milkshaking"any of his horses This is obviously a east coast bias and the stuff shirts and the blue bloods just can't get over the fact that a horse with this pedigree and sales cost can elevate his game to this level |

Hey She Sounds Like A Nice Lady
She is definitely a blue hair blue blood right out of Kentucky.
She had one of the greatest horses to run in the history of racing. She broke a lot of glass ceilings at the time and i appreciate her work on behalf of women in the sport but she does not know the first thing about Douge O'niell's operation I'm sorry but i think her age has nothing to do with it(except the "blue hair") and the depends! |

Ole Dougie should get some video cameras installed in his barn so he can get some insight as to how his horses are being milkshaked. Funny that him and Jeff Mullins seemed to be the only guys out here getting high tests after they started testing. If it is such an absrtact thing and occurs without humans giving it to the horses then why are these the only two guys having positives. They must just have those rare kinds of horses I guess.

They guy has been called Drug O'Neill for years. All of a sudden he has a meaningful horse and people stick up for him. Give me a break.
When you bet on races where guys like O'Neill and Dutrow are trainers there is a very good chance they will take your money by cheating. Same as walking down the street and someone sticking a gun in your face and stealing your money. So keep on sticking up for these crooks. Eventually public opinion will turn against the game and it will go bye bye like dog racing. |

My Deepest Apologies
Quote:
My point (poorly made)was to say that we should appreciate the fact that running a large training and racing stable is multi faceted and the ultimate responsibility for the post race condition of the horse is that of the trainer of record. The fact that there are violations or even suspensions does not tell you weather the trainer it good or bad or ugly. It only means that the enforcement of rules have been used and that the trainer is the last place to drop the shoe! I'm just here at a key board and tying to voice a view that wants to look at the entire picture of the condition of the Thoroughbred industry and give it some perspective I think you and almost everybody on your radio show and those that write there opinions here at this forum are well beyond my ability to express themselves. So with that said I again apologise for a poorly written though |
