Default Monmouth Park to bid for Breeders' Cup

The operators of Monmouth Park in New Jersey plan to submit a proposal to host the 2013 Breeders’ Cup, the top official at the track said on Friday. Monmouth will submit the proposal within the next four to seven days, according to Dennis Drazin.

The proposal will ask for Monmouth to be considered for next year’s two-day event, along with events in 2014 and beyond, Drazin said.

The track’s bid for the 2013 event is likely a longshot, because the proposal is being submitted at a time when Breeders’ Cup is in the late stages of selecting next year’s host. The leading candidates for the 2013 event are Churchill Downs in Louisville and Santa Anita Park, the Southern California track that is hosting this year’s event.

That little state takeover might have something to do with it

I'd love to give Monmouth another shot and hope there isn't a monsoon the weekend of the races.

I would think that since NYRA currently has no idea who will be running the track or what the board of directors will consist of I don't know who would be able to cut deal with them? I'm sure BC wants to let situation settle first

My question to Monmouth would be can you profit off of the BC? It isn't as though they have the luxury of corporate backing and according to CDI they always lose money on the BC. Of course CDI has been known to stretch the truth.

Incidentally, speaking of racetracks on shaky footing, there's pretty much everything New Jersey.

Same here. Hope they can stay stable and host an event in the near future.
