In an unusually direct speech aimed at members of his own party, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) took to the floor of the Senate on Wednesday to defend a longtime aide and confidant of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Huma Abedin, a Muslim and the deputy chief of staff and aide to Clinton, has been accused by former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann (Minn.) and four other House Republicans of being connected to a conspiracy theory that the Muslim Brotherhood is trying to infiltrate the highest levels of the U.S. government.

Around noon, a somber McCain rose in her defense — not just to support a friend but also to take on fringe voices in his own party. It was a familiar role for McCain, who built a reputation as a maverick with a willingness to criticize what he believes are radical views within his party.

I realize the hate for Palin - but I wonder if it would have made any difference in the outcome. I thought Biden was a tool - yet Obama won anyway.

In the end I don't think many people vote for the VP.

It was the "Hope & Change & Free things for Everybody" that got him swept into office.

Now we have no Hope, nothing has Changed (except for the worse) and those Free things are on a credit card and the payment has come due.

Michelle Bachmann is a dangerous bigot, whose Muslim-hatred unfounded lies caused an attack on our Secretary of State overseas. She and her fellow McCarthyite Muslim-haters need to be kicked out of Congress. Even Boehner says they are over the line. It was nice to see the "old" McCain back, standing up for what is right, and against bigotry and hate by his fellow Congressional members. It's really rare to see a Senator publicly censure a colleague -good for McCain!
