i'm sure everyone saw that sotomayor put a hold on the birth control mandate due to the little sisters of the poor....but this is the first time i saw this part of their argument.
i couldn't understand, if they just had to file to be exempt, why they didn't just file the paperwork.

they want to be exempt, they can be exempt, so they sought an injunction to be exempt.
this, to me, is akin to ted cruz's filibuster that really wasn't a filibuster.

so, why not just file??

well, because:

These Catholic non-profits that wanted an exemption from covering their employees' contraception needs—and got an exemption from covering their employees' contraception needs—are now fighting the provision (that exempts them from covering their employees' contraception needs) simply because they don't want to have to fill out a form that states that they are exempt. Why? Because their employees need that form in order to get birth control directly from their insurers (which they need to do because their employers—these Catholic non-profits—are exempt, as they want to be).



make sense?
if they don't file, they aren't exempt. but, if they do file, their employees can (gasp) get birth control from the insurer directly. and somehow, the little sisters are claiming this is affecting their freedom of religion.
i'm feeling pretty confident that this temporary injunction won't become long term.

Regardless of how I feel about the issue, I can understand their position.

The Catholic Church does not believe in BC. How hard is that to understand?

Whether it is given directly by the church or under the guise of being covered under an insurance policy provided even in part by the church, it's still against it.

Fortunately in this country individuals still enjoy the freedom to leave the church, its beliefs and rules, whether it be leaving its congregation or its employment rolls.
