I might yet consider early retirement! Ok, back to the point...ND is overrated imo, they are a good team with an outstanding QB but that "D" won't hold up against the big boys! Nevertheless, if they beat USC they would be in the running for the championship game...have to be! Right now, I'd rank:
Ohio State
Michigan
USC
Rutgers
Florida
Arkansas
ND
Obviously, one of the top two will fall, USC vs ND will eliminate another, only one from Florida/Arkansas...so...winner of OSU vs Mich is one, USC with a win over ND is the other...if USC loses and Rutgers can somehow go into Morgantown and beat WVa...they should be the second team! If Rutgers falls, either Florida or Arkansas would have a claim but so would ND so...we'll wait and see!
Well, I'm a huge Gators fan, but I honestly believe that Arkansas is going to beat us. We don't deserve a national championship with the way we've been playing. I'm pulling for Michigan to beat OSU... I'd love to see them national champs. I'll be very surprised if Rutgers can beat WVa at home.

Me too! Of course going to school in WVa, I'm far from impartial but there were many folks who felt that WVU had a legit chance to win the national title at the beginning of the year! They are for real...their "D" left them down, along with sloppy ball handling against Louisville but Morgantown is a really tough place to play and they will be ready! If Rutgers comes out with a win, they are one excellent football team!

The reason I am posting what I am posting and acting like I am is because I am sick of all the jealous ND Bashers. I go on a message board to talk football, and all you see is threads bashing and hating on Notre Dame. It gets sickening, why do you people have nothing better to do than to hate on the most prestigous college football team there is? Sorry if I offended anyone with the Nascar comment, it really was meant as a joke. We were talking about Rutgers here, and someone has to bring up ND and trying to bash them.

The reason ND is so hyped is because of all of you. You guys hate ND, and you have nothing better to do then to put them down. Everyone has a say on ND, either you love em or you hate em!

GO IRISH!!

LOL... everyone bashes other football teams across the board. It's not just Notre Dame. I only hate the Irish because my Step Dad is such a huge fan of them and we enjoy giving eachother shiat all season long about college ball. Notre Dame is also the kind of team that attracts "fair weather fans." I like a team that can keep their fans no matter what kind of season they're having... with that said, keep your chin up. Don't let people bring you down in regards to the ND bashing... it's all fun and games. No worries.

Geez this is turning out to be an awesome thread. I am a Penn State and Pitt fan. Both are having off years. Hard to repeat what Penn State did lasyt year. Wannstadt is ruining Pitt, just like he did to the Dolphins. I hope his time will be very soon. If Notre Dame beats USC it will be very interesting to see who plays the winner of the Ohio State-Michigan game. Rumor going around that if its close there could be a rematch. Personally I dont see it happening. More reason why there needs to be some kind of playoff in division 1A football. I am sure that if there was a playoff system a team or two that was left out would be ranting and raving about being left out.

I agree with that statement, a playoff system in college football is badly needed. It would be the only way to make everyone happy, and then no team feels screwed and left out. I hear people saying that if ND runs the table, and Ohio State beats Michigan it will be a shame if ND jumps Michigan and makes the National Title game. I agree with that, but does anyone remember 1993? I was to young to remember, but I hear how bad it was. Notre Dame beat the #1 team Florida State, then lost the next week to Boston College and who was chosen to play for the National Title, you guessed it, Florida State. So eventhough I think it wouldn't be fair for ND to jump Michigan, it would in a way make things better for ND fans who had to go through the same thing in 93.

FSU is one of the only teams that I absolutely LOATHE. It makes me grin cheek to cheek seeing them do as poorly as they are doing this season.

Jaime,

Be careful of Bobby Bowden in an underdog role

Most of the games they have lost this year they have been favored

Last year they upset Va Tech as a double digit dog in the ACC game, then almost won the Orange Bowl against PSU

Bowden is his best when he is and UNDERDOG - which he will be against FLA in a couple of weeks

Martin, I'm about as scared of FSU beating us as I was of Alabama beating the Tigahs... NOT AT ALL. I think that Florida will be ready for FSU. In fact, I'm more scared of losing to Western Carolina next weekend than I am of losing to FSU.

Fun with computer rankings:

The Colley Matrix (used in the BCS) has a cool feature where you can add and subtract games to see how they would change the rankings. Adding Rutgers over WV, Rutgers over Cincy, and Ohio St over Michigan would make Rutger #1 and Ohio St #2. However, also adding Rutgers over Syracuse would drop Rutgers to #2. So Rutgers would be better off in the computer polls not playing Syracuse than by beating them 177-0.

Went to the game, it would have been better for the Big East to have Rutgers win, but being a UC Alum, I am glad they pulled it off. UC's got a nice defense and they played the toughest schedule in the NCAA: Ohio State, Va Tech, Louisville, West Virginia, and Rutgers, making a Bowl is a good accomplishment for them with that Schedule and being a borderline Big East School. I hardly recognized the place, they have really fixed it up, too bad it's in the middle of a war zone, but maybe they can get the kids that don't go to Ohio State and field a good team. Rushing the field was kind of weak, glad I left before they did that, Rutgers is good, but can't believe that you would be so excited to beat Rutgers that you rushed the field. I think I may go to some more games next year, nice place and they serve beer at the games.
