Dreaming of Anna improves but loses
Going a mile on turf, ran in second most of the way, took the lead at the top of the stretch, but couldn't hold off Audacious Chloe, lost by a half or so.

anna and her royal highness
Quote:
OTOH, Royal Highness in the Very One made a rather impressive move around the turn to sweep by the field except for Safari Queen who made a race of it before succumbing late. She looks like a real heavy weight for FM Turf this year, maybe thats why Pletcher put Honey Rider in yesterday vs the boys ? Although I'm sure they wanted the G1 for her and she almost did it. |

Without the paved inside road and tepid pace, she is off the board in the Juvy Fillies which was a slow group to begin with.

She is hurt, there is no doubt in my mind, she never lowered her head the whole time around that track today, at least from what I saw

How exactly did she improve? Doesn't seem to me like she ran particularly better than her turf race last year save perhaps a less than expected improvement from September of hr 2YO season to March of her 3YO year. I am doubtful that she has a particularly bright future. Seems like others have caught up.

The internal times at Gulfstream are at times suspect and the closing times are mostly insane. The times in this race were neither. They went the first 1/4 in 22.98 (just about 23) and the second quarter was 48.21.(48 1/5). The next three calls were 1:11.97, 1:35.51,1:41.71. At Gulfstream these times are slow. That 25 and change break should have been enough of a breather for Dreaming of Anna to crush this field. Perhaps Audacious Chloe is a star in the making. A smart syndicate paid 300k for her. |

DOA never looked like she was going well. as another poster said, she had her head up and never looked comfortable out there.
maybe she hated the track, maybe she's a woodbine wonder, i dont know. |

In all likelihood she was a combination of two things....precocious and overrated. Her BC victory was obviously a combination of setting a slow pace on an inside friendly track against a very subpar group. Her turf win at Woodbine was legitimately good but she probably was just ahead of her peers at the time. She's clearly still a good horse but perhaps some have caught up to her. Whether or not she continues to do well with these connections remains to be seen.
To be fair, she may well have simply run into a buzzsaw today. The two of them finished well ahead of the field and in all likelihood it was probably a case of two horses running very well. She attacked the pace a little earlier than the winner but both had decent trips overall. It's not like she got drowned and the result could easily have been reversed. I think she ran better than I expected she would. |

Its 4:5 that she is retired with injury in the next month or two.
Maybe she could race Folklore? |
