“Those jobs are truly at risk without the passage of this legislation,” he said. But Rep. Chet Dobis, D-Merrillville, said the state should not bail out the failing horse-racing industry.

“It’s a loser in every racetrack in this country,” he said.
A loser in every racetrack? I'm pretty new to this, but I get the sense that the slots have consistently brought in more patrons, helped swell the purse money, and improved the quality of competition at the tracks. Are there really tracks that suffered after the slots were installed?

I think he is just one of those politicians who want all the money for other stuff. He obviously doesn't have a clue what he is talking about.Gambling,IMO,is one of the largest businesses in this country.I think our gov. screwed the pooch with what they did with online poker. They would have earned TRILLIONS in tax money.

We had a racino proposal on the ballot here in Michigan a few years ago, but it got defeated. The irony was that it was a coalition of the casino industry and anti-gambling activists that killed it. Strange bedfellows indeed.
