Dining:

'The Derby' www.thederbyarcadia.com - not to be missed if you're a visiting horseplayer. I could go into the history, but the website will do a better job. .5 miles from the track.

Pasadena is loaded with good restaurants. Arroyo Chop House, Sushi Roku, Parkway Grill, Cafe Santarini, et al

Track:

Buy clubhouse admit for $ 8.50. Its worth it. Also gives you access to the frontrunner rest. up top. Good bar as well up there. Down in the thick of things.....Sironas is a good bar in between the paddock and the apron.

From your question, I'm surmising you've been to the Los Angeles area before.

I'm not expert in eating and dining establishments around Santa Anita, but if you haven't been in LA or Southern California much before, I have some advice and experience I'd be happy to share.

Yeah, I tend to agree.

In N Out is a California institution.

Del Taco is a necessary evil.

This is my first time in the area. I have only four days but the race track was going to be one of them. I thought about the wine country. I am open to any suggestions

Thanks

Wine Country is too far away from Anita(just a bit.)Suggestion is to buy red wine to dine on with your IN -N OUT burgers n' fries.

My brother in law is a world traveling Doctor and the first he eats at when he comes to California is IN-N-OUT and thats the truth. Some people just can't get enough of that sloppy burger.

Was just out at Santa Anita a couple of weeks ago. I have gone out every year either in Feb. or Mar. for the past ten years. I typically stay within walking distance to the track and go over to clocker's corner for morning workouts and then back to the races in the afternoon. There are a number of very nice restaurants along the main drag in Monrovia which is the next suburb just east of Arcadia where the track is located. The street is named Myrtle and it runs norh-south and is about a five minute drive from the track. This year I wanted to include some winetasting in the trip. It is roughly a two and a half hour drive from Arcadia to Solvang which takes you to the area where the movie Sideways was filmed. If you want to do this, you will need to stay overnight to appreciate the area, beautiful scenery and some wonderful wines. Weather should be great in April.
