Default Allowance/Optional Claiming Races

I never understand why they don't give the horses who run for a tag a few pounds...What is the attraction to running for a tag then? It would make sense that they do that.

the attraction to running for a tag is that it allows the horse to run in the condition in which it could have already won.

sorry to point out the obvious, but I like those races from a handicapping point of view as it makes for larger fields

I understand that, but I just think it makes sense to give a break.

Often, it's the ones in for a tag who need a break the least. Can't see why they would give them a break in the weights as they've often already cleared that condition.

they are giving the horse a break. By allowing it to run in the same condition. Why give an additional break.

Love the "B" races at Calder: For 3 y.o. OR 4y.o. that have never won 3 races.

Maybe b/c often the condition has been cleared and a healthy claiming game with more horses in for a tag wouldn't hurt.
