Default Magna 5: 3/17

Not playing today, so I thought I would start the Magna thread early.
Bizarre sequence for tomorrow, with 3 stakes races and 2 absoutely awful 32K maiden claimers.
I'm not the biggest SweetNorthernSaint fan, but with this post and this group, I think he rolls in leg A.
I'm going to try and beat Any Limit in the Bonnie Miss (but I'll still include her).
More to come later.

Looks like a very playable M5 for a change- I'm betting to go shallow and catch a 500.00 - 600.00 payoff, only because what looks to be chalk are far and away better ( except the MCL's, where anything can happen...
That said:

Leg A - 1
Leg B - 1,3
Leg C - 4
Leg D - 3,8
Leg E - 2,8

1x2x1x2x2 = 8 x $2 = 16 beans

Think it will take a few more $$,
leg b add 9
leg c " 1,3 lots of speed, short field , crap shoot
leg d " eenie meenie, awful race

I think the 3 stakes could be very chalky, but the maiden claiming races are absolutely miserable.
Would hate to miss out on a monster payout because of some formless horse in a 32K maiden claimer decides he wants to run on this particular day.

Still, here is where I'm leaning as of now.

A) 1The post, track and field all work to SweetNorthernSaint's favor. An off track won't scare me away, either, but I might want to include the 6 (due) on a saver ticket. I think he had a good excuse in the Sunshine Millions, and would hate myself if I went 3-4 deep and he won for fun. If he gets beat, I'll accept it.
B) 2,3,9
If I had to single someone, it would be Leah's Secret. Any Limit looks very tough, but with the added distance and expected fast pace, I'll hope that either Stormy Kiss or Leah's Secret catch her before the wire.

C) 6Worried about a kamikaze pace down the hill between La Tormenta and River's Prayer. The latter should clear and win, but if not, I don't know which horse will be the beneficiary of the hot early pace. Would like bachelorette One more if Gomez stayed aboard and if the horse was proven down the hill. The Espinoza/Knapp filly seems possible, but looks to be in a little deep here. I'll stick with my guns and single the 6.

D) 3,7,10,13,14Obvious crapshoot. I'm going 5 deep here, and if the 13 and or 14 dont' get in, I'll substitute as needed. Not including the Pletcher hose as of Friday night, thinking he's got a big 4 sale sign tattoed on his ass.

E) 2,7,8
Sad that Espinoza's horse will probably be the favorite, with the only reasons being his presence in the saddle, and that the horse hasn't had the opportunity to show she's as bad as the rest of this field.

1x3x1x5x3 = 45 x$2 = $90
Subject to change Saturday afternoon with scratches.

If it's anyhing at all like the previous M5's, a 14-1 will take it down in the first leg at Laurel.

Jus' saying I don't really chase this bet like I used to, only looks like it may very well set up chalky.

As for the 9 in leg B - I like Helen Pitts, but this horse is trending to a huge bounce in this race ( I don't even need Thorograph to see that ). I'd almost be comfortable singling the 3 actually, but I'll pay the 8 bucks for the 1 cause she looks like she loves the distance.

leg's C - Peter Miller is 36% when won last out and this horse has 4 straight wins down the hill. Easiest single of the bet

Leg D - eenie meenie? the 3 drops to mdn 21 after 3 straight board hits at Mdn 50, 50, and 32... no one else comes close to this class here.
add the 8 for back up, but another logical single.

This is as easy ( cappingwise, that is) since the 3rd week of the bet. Don't chase it with a fist full of dollars....

leg D - ICU #3 DAM stats 10 runners, 8 winners 0 turf

gives me seeds of doubt, a single in a crapshoot race, i'd skip the bet

Wouldn't underestimate fillies who have already won stakes down the hill. This is a step up.

Here goes
A. 1 Might be out early B. 2,3 Crapshoot, won't spread to get beat by MCLs later
C. 3,4 Like the speed
D. 2,4 Good as any
E. 8 You could bet any 5 in here and still get beat. I'll take one that hasn't been thrashed by this kind (yet).

gonna use the 6,8,13 in leg D now...it is officially a crap shoot

1
1,3
4
6,8,13
2,8

24 bucks

DAMN!!! Apparently not the easiest single of the bet...24 measly bucks to not add the 6 in the third leg cost me 2K

I'm changing my gameplan. Just putting together a $32 ticket.
I just think something really bizarre is going to happen.

Leg a) 1
Leg b) 3,9
Leg c) 4,6
Leg d) 13
Leg e) 2,5,7,8

$32...
