We Were Just Kidding
Just a couple of weeks after declaring themselves as a candidate to run racing in NY State, Steve Wynn's group Thoroughbred Racing - New York has dropped out of the bidding.
With a commitment like that it's really a shame they won't be getting their chance. http://www.drf.com/news/article/83476.html |

Obviously you can't be upset with that Andy? I sure as hell didn't want them.

The more I think about this the more it pisses me off. It just gives more credence to all of our fears....that these bidders actually have ZERO interest in running racing in NY and are just trying to get their paws on Slot revenue. The nerve of Steve Wynn to pretend to want the very difficult and important job of running racing in NY. This racing is VERY important to me, and probably quite a few people here, as well as the entire industry. To flippantly act as though you were ready, and eager, to take on that burden ( when in fact your were not ) is an insult to everyone involved in this game.
The decision on this franchise is a very serious one. |

it may be a poor analogy but they remind me of all these guys trying to claim anna nicole's baby...only 2 guys wanted her before mom died...a whole lot more want her now that she comes with money.

I don't care what anybody says, or whether or not you like NYRA, at least we know they want to run racing in good times and bad. Nobody else can say that. |

No argument, but even for that reason people should be concerned that the bidders care about ALL of the NY tracks....and not just the one or ones with Slot palaces. |

I don't even know who's left at this point. Or when a decision will be made....so tough to keep up with this fiasco.

Shocker.
He's too busy with his kajillion dollar casino in Vegas (which I HATE, I might add) to really be concerned with running a racing franchise.

You know that show "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" Well apparently the NYRA isnt smarter than a 5th grader. The racing license is an easy one in New York. You have the best tracks, best horses and best scenario. Doesn't matter who gets the license because it will be 80% slots and 20% racing. Sad day in racing when slots are more important than racing. But that is the day we are in.

I am guessing, and it's only a guess, that someone in Spitzer's office explained to Catskill OTB that they basically weren't even allowed to bid for the franchise. They were only there in a weak attempt by NY State OTBs to, once again, try and have a say in something they basically aren't involved in. |

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out. They are dropping like flies. I nearly have to say that I am rooting for NYRA, too, although it really has very little bearing on me...

Steve Wynn is one of the best pin hookers in the buisness. Took the Golden Nuget, and turn it over for a cool 250 million profit. Business is buisness, and you can't blame a guy who see's an easy score. NYRA been eating our lunch for to many years, O yea, non profit. Bull crap, my taxes are not non profit. Down with the old boss. In with the monthly retirement checks. As long as they clean an renovate the rest rooms.
