Default Aiken, SC (Training Center)

I will be in SC in a couple weeks. So, I was going to try to spend a day or two in Aiken, SC. As a horse racing fan, are there any must stops there beside the training center?

I have also been searching for horse racing memorabilia. Let me know if there are any good shops.

Thanks
John

I recommend steering clear of the nuclear waste dump and the plutonium factory. Other than that, Aiken is great.....

Seriously, I lived in South Carolina and love the horse love of Aiken. But that said, I can't think of anything else open to the public for a race fan to see. At least not that I found.

If you're a golf fan at all, drive the extra 20 minutes to Augusta and take a look at Augusta National.

I live in SC and there's really nothing. In fact, I've never been to Aiken to see horses so if you go and it's interesting let me know.

Default Go to Camden

Stop by Springdale in Camden if you're in that neck of the woods. There's a great viewing stand at the training track where you can watch gallops. In addition to many of the top jump horses, there are also a fair number of flat horses trained there, and consigners like Kip Elser are also working their horses there practically everyday. And, of course, the National Steeplechase Museum is located there. Hang around a while and you'll bump into some the top trainers and riders.

Not for horse racing, but...

You can always make a trip up to the best University in the South, Clemson University.

Clemson is a beautiful day trip. Maybe you can even catch a baseball game, and watch the Tigers kick some butt.

Funny, but the last time I checked, The University of Florida was the best University in the South.

GO GATORS!

Last time I checked University of Florida was trying to steal players from Clemson (CJ Spiller). Last time I also heard, NCAA was quietly looking into FL coaches and boosters talking to Spiller's mom and possibly even CJ himself during Clemson's bowl game last year.

Cheaters may be winners, till they get caught.

Just food for thought...

I'm fairly certain that if you look at Clemson's history, you won't find a blemish free organization. Some more food for thought.

True, but in the last 9 years under Bowden, we have been squeaky clean. Almost too much so...

IPTAY

(I pay thirty athletes yearly)

Too bad about the fire at the Clemson library.

Both books were destroyed.

And one hadn't been colored in yet.
