Default My derby top 7

1)street sense- love race at BC and Tampa was a dogfight. Didnt look like screws were that tight at Bluegrass. Does he love the rail too much? If he gets shuffled out to mid of track anyway that causes a problem??
2)Circular Quay- beautiful horse bit small and love to watch his races visuallly impressive but running style worries me will need some luck but hey who wont?
3)Nobiz- I know the buzz on this one has cooled off but i trust Tagg and really think he is a good trainer but can he somehow get this one to calm down???? If he could get the horse to take back at all could envisiion a "grinding" type of trip where he just keeps coming keeps coming and the horses in frt of him start to slow down and he stays at same speed.
4)Great Hunter- Another one that has lost a lot of "buzz" after recent race. Does o'niel not do anything outside of Calif??? That has me worried a lot i loved the lewis race horse really seemed to just push the button and was off last race even without the trouble i dont know if he wins. Was really expecting a quick burst but just didnt see it. Am i wrong?? Who knows what is going to happen with this one. If odds get out of control i'll have to at least make a win bet
5)Hard Spun- The Lanes end too me and correct me if im wrong was a visually impressive race in that at no point did i think that hard spun would lose. His jock didn't move a bit and from what i remember they ran a decent pace that day but jock didnt shake him up till last turn. I really walked away from race visually impressed. If im off, please let me know.
6)Zanjero- Seems like a moderatly talkented horse but seems to have problems in his races. Think he ran pretty good in BG and with Curlin may be the forgotten horse ala real quiet?
7)Any Given Sat- This is the horse i have watched since last year. I remember watching his first race this year from Tampa and was really excited about it. Race vs SS was insane and too be honest wasnt totally surprised that he was "off" in Wood. Looks like he missed a week of trainging to run in Wood but is back on schedule. My pick to win if odds aren't awful.

There you have it, my top 7 not in order obviously if you see ANYTHING wrong with my thought process please point it out i wont get mad b/c it may save me money Derby day. thanks.

I was going to put Cowtown in and throw out Curling... but my keyboard wouldnt let me. Right now I am not interested in AGS eventhough the buzz around here makes me think I should be...

Well, I respect what the horse has done this Spring -- but I'm not a believer that he's a contender for the top spots.

So, yes

Curlin is an automatic toss for me. I'll let him beat me... I'm not impressed.

That and your signature says you think he will finish 7th, so it seems appropriate that you include him in the 7 slot in your top 7.

Your not impressed with a horse that has 3 wins in 3 starts and 2 runaway stakes victories, one of those in a $1,000,000 race?

hmmm.

I could agree with you if you said "I dont think he has the foundation for this race". But I can't agree with "I'm not impressed"

Well, naturally. I want to be as prophetic as possible at all times.

I normally would agree, but he's just looked so good all three times he's raced. He doesn't seem to have any bad habits, he rates like an old pro -- he's got everything I could want in a horse who might break all sorts of Derby angles with a win.

I could see him easily running well out of the money given the other factors the race brings to young, inexperienced horses -- but so far, he's given me no reason to doubt his natural ability and that may very well me enough. I just think he's one of those who just might be that good.

But if there's anything late resembling a dogfight, I'd take Sense and Saturday over him -- Sense for obvious reasons and while Saturday keeps coming up on the wrong end of photos, he's going to get one to go his way one of these days.

I think that photo that AGS will finally win will be in the Peter Pan stakes at Belmont, not the KDerby.

Looks can be deceiving. You just like him because you think he's the second coming of Smarty Jones.

Not impressed! I can understand if you toss him for being short or lack of preperation but if any horse has been impressive its Curlin. It might be one of them things . Doing the right thing for all the wrong reasons.

lets not bring Smarty into this..

What have other horses this year done that "looks" better than Curlin. I cant think of any this year, except for possibly the battle of the tampa bay derby.

The only other time any of the other entrants have "looked" better was when they were two, and SS won the BCJuvi.

So I guess I am saying.. IMHO.. the only horse in the race that has "looked" better than Curlin is Street Sense.

I'm not impressed with him to win the Derby... Was he visually impressive? Yes. Visually impressive doesn't always equal a Derby winner.
