Default Want to go next year, any advice?

My buddies and I want to make the trip to the derby next year. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on the best places & where to stay. Not looking for a luxurious hotel (Best Western, Holiday Inn types will do fine also. ) I was planning on calling to reserve a room this week for next year, if that is possible. Any advice for this noob would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You better do it within the next few days...not weeks. When I stayed at a Louisville hotel this past winter for our game vs Univ of Louisville, the hotel sales team told me that the day OF the Derby is when they sell out for NEXT year. All of the people make their return reservations before they check out.

Eagles: that's "newb" for you....as apposed to "knob" which you aren't I would think that this road trip would be fun...but you've got to secure your accomodations quickly....cuz with 160,000 people on hand..it'll be cozy!

went to the Breeders' Cup and stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn which is walking distance from the track. I would recommend. I think you have to call the hotel and get your name on a list to book rooms after the first of the year...
