Default OT- Peter Gammons.

ESPN's Peter Gammons is undergoing surgery this afternoon for an aneurysm in his brain.
Gammons was stricken earlier today and was taken to a Boston-area hospital. He is expected to be in intensive care for the next 10 to 12 days. It'll be a far less interesting trade deadline if Gammons isn't ready to spread some rumors. Hopefully, a speedy recovery is on the way. Jun. 27 - 6:35 pm et

Man, that stinks. I really enjoy hearing what he has to say, because like TG said he has a ****load of contacts in every front office in the league. Hope he is able to fully recover!!

Peter has so many contacts because he is a 1st rate reporter. Doesnt talk bad about anyone, doesnt reveal his sources and he doesnt just make stuff up. I wish Gammons well, his passion and knowledge of the game is truly special. Gammons, Reynolds and Kruk are just awesome together.

Peter Gammons knows more about baseball than anyone should know about anything.

That is so true. Sometimes he knows so much that he doesnt know what to do. Then once he gets started it is hard to slow him down. But those three on baseball tonight and you could Joe Morgan in there are just so knowledgable about the sport that it isnt even funny.

True, but Gammons is a reporter, not some who is in the arena. Remember, the guys that play are the ones that deserve the credit. GM's are the ones who take the risks, Gammons just is an observer. I like Gammons but he is too close to the Red Sox for my liking. Journalists shouldn't bet that involved with one team.

Gammons heart may lie with the Red Sox, but he is not some schill for the organization. He takes his fair share of shots when he disagrees with something they do. He also praises them when they do good things. Peter is more impartial than many. He love of the Red Sox is one of the things that makes him such a great reporter. He loves the Red Sox because he loves baseball and thats the team he grew up with.

Notice I said "loves baseball". I had the pleasure to meet Mr Gammons two summers ago at a Cape Cod League baseball game. The only thing he loves more than baseball, is his wife, Gloria. Sports needs more reporters like Gammons who have an overwhelming passion for the game, dont pull punches and who report fair and accurate.

Peter, know you probably wont see this, but I'm praying for you and hope to see you on the Cape sooner rather than later!

The guys is cutting an album with Theo Epstein, too close for my liking. Saying Gammons is not biased is just wrong. He is an excellent reporter, but his red sox allegiance comes through. I am guessing the Red Sox fans don't see it. Let me guess, you are a Red Sox fan.

Gammons is the most respected baseball reporter in the business. Scouts, GM's, etc. call him. His cell phone rings off the hook. He is the most trusted of them all. He tells it like it is. He hardly ever has anything bad to say about anyone (he does have reservations on the steroid boys - as he is a member of the BWA that votes). I email him for some news that he has heard from around the league, so I can use to post with my fellow roto-writers. I've only met one fellow writer, who can't stand him, and uses his columns to contradict his every word. Unfortunately he is a part of my roto-crew.

I guess you aren't biased either? LOL. Gammons is part of the problem with baseball. That guy is supposed to be a journalist and he is nothing more than a pawn of the owners. WHERE IS THE STEROID STORY FROM GAMMONS? The "journalist of baseball" just forgets about the cheating.

A kid who used to play for the Red Sox came out this week and said everyone there is taking them. WHERE IS THE STEROID STORY ON THE RED SOX from Gammons?

He's not writing the story. He has had a brain aneurism surgery.
Read the thread.
Prayers for him.

Must be a liberal secret agenda otherwise.

I only watch him on Baseball Tonight and I dont see much of a bias coming through. I am a huge Red Sox fan but also follow many of the other games every night. Gammons is anything but bad for the game. Thats a ridiculous thing to say, especially at a time like this.

There was obviously a steroid story in the Red Sox clubhouse. Gammons just looked the other way. The kid that played for them in 2000 said they were everywhere. I have heard Gammons comment plenty on steroids, just not about the connection to the Red Sox. If it was there, which everyone knows it was, he must not have been doing his job or he just looked the other way.

I am well aware of what happenned to him. The steroids were rampant in the Red Sox clubhouse in 2000 and he never once mentioned it. He is a pawn of the owners. These so called journalists are really nothing more than fans who look the other way to keep their high paying jobs and keep their sources in baseball. Gammons cares about Gammons, not the steroid problem that has moved to high schools and colleges.

Any guy who depends on sources like he does knew what was going on. He just looked the other way.

Right now, I'm checking on this so-called story that apparently no one has heard of before. Its not my job anyways to report this information. What readers want from me is information on what their players, and player's team are planning on doing.

Plus I've been reading you for a while. And I have to wonder, if someone doesn't agree with you, do you always charge, that they are biased or gullable, or some other juvenile response?

I'm a Yankee fan and I love Peter Gammons. It doesn't matter what team you're a fan of now; when I read this on this board, I was shocked. I'm praying that he makes a full recovery.

As for whether he's biased or not, I definitely don't think so (though my Yankee fan bretheren think he is), but I still don't think that a debate on that belongs here. Even if he is biased, so what? The man came close to dying and is not yet out of the woods.
