Default Two Year Olds at Belmont Today

The 2nd race at Belmont today is a 2 year old race. There is a first-timer in here that can really run. His name is Ascot Hall. I saw him work at the Barrett's March sale. If he's doing as well now as he was 7 weeks ago, he will be extremely hard to beat today. He looked like a really nice horse.

The Aldebaran worked 10 1/5th with the aid of blinkers....galloped out in 21 4/5ths.

I agree that the Pletcher will probably win.

Ascot Hall is a really good colt. I don't think Pletcher's filly will be able to compete with him.

that's the filly who lost 8 lengths in the stretch after getting bumped at the start? Good luck with her at 1/2.

Nice call on the Aldebaran.

I thought the Pletcher filly was home and he came and got her.

I'm surprised he still won after breaking so bad. It's tough to win from 10 lengths behind in a 5 furlong race. He actually has plenty of speed.

Hard to believe that all they could scrape up for a open 2 yo race at Belmont Park is 2 NY breds, a filly, a Wesley Ward piece and 2 others.

Actually 3 NYB's as Ward horse is one also. And the Salzman horse was a $7k yearling. Not saying that it was not an impressive debut but that is a sad field.
BTW- I trained the dam of Ward's horse, made a big score one day on her, last race at Saratoga, 1st time turf, Bailey off. Chavez on, $35

The Pletcher filly was one of just two or three that he nominated to the Derby week 2yo stake--and he did so before she ever debuted--as it turns out, she's not much.

Like Rupert said...the Aldebaran may have only won narrowly, but was a lot more impressive.

I've noticed a trend that a lot of horses who wear blinkers at their 2yo in training preview---tend to be slow breakers in their debut, and often race erratic...and some are just plain busts. This one looked well though.

I'm quite sure I caught her in the daily double that day.

I loved Blazing Fury in the race prior---and played him in doubles with all but about two horses in the next race....and I believe those two finished either 2nd and 3rd or 2nd and 4th behind you.

No.

The last horse from my list to run just missed the track record at CD on Sunday. I had one on Saturday blow the start badly and finish 2nd...luckily it was too short of a price. Also at CD.

That is correct. I was second in the race before, the Saranac(i think) with a horse named Fast City behind Blazing Fury. I had a major ticket on my horses in the double.
