Default Amazing

Nobody seriously hurt, two out of three horses walk off on their own. For as horrific as that looked it seems very lucky that nearly all of those involved, human or equine, walked away relatively unscathed.

From: http://racing.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=38987

Quote:
Three jockeys escaped serious injury at Hollywood Park May 17 when Royal Change, leading the field in the fourth race while approaching the quarter pole, suffered a fractured right foreleg and fell, tossing rider Alex Bisono.

Two others in the $40,000 claiming race for fillies and mares going 1 1/16 miles on Cushion Track -- Mudder of Pearl, ridden by Martin Pedroza, and No Tip For You, piloted by Martin Garcia -- tripped over the fallen horse and lost their riders.

Garcia and Bisono were taken to nearby Centinela Medical Center for x-rays, but were released. Garcia sustained a sprained left wrist and Bisono had a sprained right ankle, according to the Hollywood Park publicity office. Pedroza was examined at the track's first aid facility and released. He did not ride his remaining mount on the card.

Royal Change was euthanized. Mudder of Pearl and No Tip For You walked from the track.

I'm glad the Poly track is preventing these break downs. Glad everyone else is OK.

It was one of those you see and just hope for the best. It was over before it happened.

Speaking of mishaps...

Did anyone see the driver at Meadowlands that lost his outside rein? The rein broke or something and the only thing he had to hold on to was the left rein. Well, tugging on that brought the horse over into the horse on his left. He did a great job, however, because he never caused an accident and was able to signal to everyone behind him to go around on the outside. Meanwhile, you could tell the guy was absolutely freaking out because he was positioning himself to bail. He eventually used the horse's tail to hold on until the outrider could grab the horse and bring it to a stop. That horse was NOT going to stop otherwise!! First time I had ever seen that. But, I don't watch much harness...

its so predictable to see the obligatory 'polytrack' remark whenever there is a spill or breakdown on it. I don't get why the daily dirt breakdowns are of no interest and are not mentioned.

Its cushion track at Hollywood, not poly track. and it is more forgiving to run on, and most likely does prevent some breakdowns. many trainers that run on it have given that opinion. Honu posts on here and rides horses on it all the time can give a first hand account about how it is kinder to horses.

does it eliminate all possibilty of a horse injuring itself while running? of course not but isn't that a ridiculous assumption in the first place.

Not sure he meant it sarcastically, maybe he did. Nonetheless, we all are aware of the pro's and con's...

No question...Dumb comment...just my own personal bias against poly/cushion/plastic/fake dirt what ever you want to call it track.

fair enough,

I though I had heard that all the horses made it okay. Now I see the Royal Change didn't. that's a shame. It was a scary situation for both man and horse.
