Taking Your Girl To The Track
I've been taking my girl to the track for about 5 years now. No, I'm not that whipped. Once in a while I know the only way I can get away with going is to take her.
Anyways, she's been asking questions and trying to learn. I personally didn't think she was picking up much until last weekend. I go to the can and come back to my girl arguing with a guy at the bar who hasn't had a winner since the Carter administration. She starts laughing at the guy telling him "your horse is going to bounce hard" "that is a huge underlay, what a waste of money" "have you not seen the huge speed bias this track has right now?" OH my god what a turn-on!!! Watching your girl talk handicapping and actually knowing more than most of the degenerate losers hanging around. Especially when was right and laughed in the guys face. |

Fun post, Seconditis. When my girlfriend and I first met she really had no love for horse racing. She basically understood my enjoyment for the game and tolerated my gaming . However, over the two years, she has taken to it as well.
When we go to the track we have daily double contests, see who can hit for more on rolling daily doubles, and we cap the bet at $10 per double. The double is much less daunting for a novice like her, as opposed to a tri, super or pick 4. Living in New England, we enjoy trips to NYC on occassion and when we do, we head out to Belmont to play and last summer we spent a whole week at Saratoga and went to all five of the six races days (one was a rainy one, so there were so "indoor" activities at the hotel ) We also ate at Byk's BBQ, before I knew the legend of Bykster! Dont know if my girl is as keen as yours, when it comes to the PP's she can pick out a closer and a speed horse, but after that, it's a tossup. She also cant understand the conditions We have fun though, and thats all that matters really.

Those are both really cute posts. My poor husband's eyes roll right back in his head whenever I start yammering about racing. Though he's a good sport at the track, and is surprisingly good at noticing a horse that's not moving right in the paddock.
He's gone for ten weeks, doing a play in Ohio, and made all kinds of jokes about coming home to an apartment painted pink. I said, "I'd never do that, but I don't promise I won't commission a mural of famous Thoroughbreds for the living room walls." That's when he got nervous for real. |

HUGE MISTAKE.......your woman will always start talking to while there is 2 minutes to post and you need to speed read the form to force in a play.

My Muffin and "The Boy Gots It"
I've had mostly positive experiences at the track with gal pals. And at the '93 Breeders Cup at Santa Anita I arrived sans girlfriend and left with one named Terri who was from Sacramento and worked for Hewlitt Packard.. I remember little of that Cup because we were entwined in each others lap on one of the benches off to the side of the paddock...
But 80's era girlfriend Karen ("The Muffin") and I were at Alabama Day in '90 for Go For Wand. I hit the first two, $120 exacta and the Double ($80) which I NEVER bet, and was up $200. She had been kvetching to go to the Shoe Depot downtown, so I said we would go, get her shoes, come back for the 'Bama.. But she ran into a friend from Cortland St. by the Carousel, and starts yapping... So it's 5-6 minutes to the third race and I spot a 16-1 shot I liked called Balinar (the 7). I wheeled him up and down with the 1-3-5-9... all the odd # horses.. They're turning for home, and the screen says "7-3-1-5" and the 7 is up 5 lengths, so I know I'm a winner... In deep stretch, I see something coming like a blur on the outside and suddenly there's a horse getting to my 7 and I don't know who it is... There's an old guy who was watching the race with me and I had told him what I played so he was rooting with me on the 16-1 shot... They get to the wire and the closer gets up and I'm yelling "Who was it?" And he's yelling "Do you gots it?"... Me: "Who was it?"... Him: "Da 9.. It's da 9"... Me: "I got the 9.. I got the 7 with the 1-3-5-9"... Him: "You gots it! You gots it! The boy gots it! You my hero!" The 9, Keynote Speaker, was 27-1... Exacta paid $721.00... My first IRS ticket... And all because Muffin ran into a girlfriend at the track! We had an apartment together in Ossining... "The Love Shack"... Now she's married with a baby.. the Mini Muffin.

Took my gurl to the track a few weeks back and I think the horses she bet on are still running, they should cross the finish line any day now. We havn't been dating long enough for me to start tossing too much lingo at her. She's definately not a cheap date, she matches me beer for beer. We had a great time though.

My wife doesn't mind going to track with me once in a while, but she doesn't like to stay for hours at a time.

my wife had never been to the races until 6 years ago when we started goin out. she liked it right away!
she's learned to read through the program but she still sticks to her "handicapping method". she plays all gray horse and may birthdays. sometimes it's tough to argue with, she had giacomo in the 2005 derby and i trashed a handful of tickets. she's looking forward the virginia derby.
