Default Thanks Calvin Borel !

my cousin and his family attend Sumwon's great run saturday! my cousin's 10 y/o son wanted to meet calvin borel, he waited by the paddock gate and Borel told him to wait for him there after the race.
zach was waiting and Borel came right over and autographed zach's program, posed for 2 Great pictures and spent time with a 10 y/o kid ! just made zachs day and Sumwon's run just topped it off!
thanks CB and Sumwon.

very, very cool. In a day where athletes have minimal time for the fans.
Jocks usually come through.

that's good to hear.

Another reason that Borel deserved everything that came his way at the Derby, classy guy all around.

Calvin "gets it". It only took a couple minutes of his time, but he now has a fan for life.

If the sport is to survive, we need young fans. Not pushing money through the windows, just enjoying the sport and rooting for their favorite horses and jockeys both on track and on TV (higher ratings will translate to better media coverage, the media only gives a crap about a sport, if they think someone is watching. See Hockey).

Nice story, thanks for sharing.

"Calvin gets it"

Certainly correct here. Living in Nascar country (outside Charlotte) for 25 years I have witnessed the explosion of the sport...and its been primarily by the hands of the drivers who go out of their way for the fans.

Before the big race yesterday there was an entire day called "Speed Street" where each driver had their own stage and spent the day with their fans. Horse racing needs more of that.

Now all we have to do is to find a way to get those stickers plastered on the side of the horse!

"That Dr. Allday, Number 7 DT Stable horse ran good for me today and want to that Simon Stables for having her tuned up for the race"

that's good, really funny.

great story about Calvin. What a thrill for the boy to get that kind of access to the guy who rode the derby winner.

I still think the coolest thing about Saratoga is that the Jocks have to walk through the crowd to get back to the jocks room. Most of them are great. They will talk to you and give autographs. You can't get access like that in any other sport.

i shook calvin and rafaels hands the other day, and willie signed my sumwon pic.

oh, and kent brought home a horse for me....what's the usual rule of thumb regarding how long before you can bust a jocks chops again after he brings home a horse??

always nice to see athletes understand the importance of being there for the fans.....a lot of you know the story I shared regarding Sammy Sosa and my son....that is something that kids never ever forget....Calvin can now get pinched on the rail every time out until he hangs em up and he will always have a least one fan...

Zig its typically a week or 2 busted rides. Depends on how big of a price the horse was. If its a longshot you have to give him two crap rides. If its short priced, you still have to give him a busted ride but on the second busted ride, you are entitled to mumble under your breath when he walks past you.
