adagio in the colonial cup
spoke to the guys at ieah and they are very high on him. They said they are going down in a private jet and bringing mike smith with them. they said the horse is doing great and has been conditioned for the race by sir michael stoute. i hope to get a price on him...

Definition:
adagio (It.). At ease. Slow (not so slow as largo, but slower than andante). A slow movt. is often called ‘an Adagio’. adagissimo, extremely slow. adagio assai, very slow. nice name for a horse.

Dreaming of Anna may go favored in the Regret, but High Heels in her turf debut has a strong shot here. First, on class - she was third in the Ky Oaks and three fillies who finished behind her won stakes races last weekend, the Acorn (G1), the Hollywood Oaks (G2), and the Canadian (oops, Woodbine) Oaks. Secondly, her dam was a SW on turf and was a first-out winner on the greensward (I taught you about this word last year, remember?). I'm hoping to be there so I can talk Cinda Hartlage into sneaking me into the winners' circle photo.

Time Squared is at a peak in form, I don't like him as much on the turf at this class and distance.
Adagio is probably a player Strike a Deal is a decent animal What about the French horse ?? hes a mystery... |

I dont know much about the rest of the field but Adagio's form has been regressive this season in his 3 runs and if he's a short price, I wouldnt be going near him..

From the Racing Post:
CRAVEN Stakes winner Adagio is set to make his US debut this weekend at Colonial Downs in Virginia – despite a hiccup in travel plans. The son of Grand Lodge was bought out of Sir Michael Stoute's stable after finishing only fourth toDerby winner Authorized in the Dante following his flop as favourite for the 2,000 Guineas. Adagio is due to make his debut for New York-based Richard Dutrow, best known as the trainer of Breeders' Cup Classic winner Saint Liam, in the Colonial Turf Cup. However, his flight was delayed from Britain was delayed by a day, according to Mike Sherack, spokesman for his new owners IEAH stables. “The flight was delayed and he arrived in New Jersey at 12.30 in the morning,” said Sherack. “Fortunately, everything went well and the horse was very happy. He has to do his quarantine period and obviously the schedule got a bit cluttered but we‘re confident he'll be there for the race.” Colonial Downs is atypical of American circuits in that grass racing dominates the programme. Although the 1m11/2f Turf Cup is only a Grade 3, it is worth a massive $750,000 and has quickly established itself as a major target for potentially classy US-trained three-year-olds on the turf. Indeed, the race isalmost certain to be upped in grade in the near future. Adagio, now owned by IEAH stables, will be ridden by Mike Smith in a 13-runner field also featuring Mint Slewlep, who ran in the Preakness, and Time Squared, a late defector from last week‘s Belmont. Both will be making their turf debuts, and the likely favourite is Soldier's Dancer, who won the Grade 3 Tropical Park Derby on New Year's Day before a couple more decent displays on the turf. Darley's Sahara Heat, who completed a hat-trick last time at Woodbine, is another likely sort. ****************** I agree with Brockguy with him, what with his regressive form and travel problems he had, i wouldn't want to go near him in this race. I would like to see him show some form again before betting him. I'm not saying he can't win, but i'm wary of this horse after two poor runs when seemingly no excuse. The faster pace they go in America should suit him, which is just about the only plus point i can think of right now. He looked good in the Craven, but that race wasn't much and his run in the Guineas was nothing more than pathetic.

I like Soldier's Dancer and hope he is an overlay. Playing if I can get 9-2 or better.
Also think Wheels Up At Noon could be useful underneath at a big price. |

I watched the Dante and I got his last quarter in roughly 24, in spite of the fact he lost ground. Not bad at *10.5 soft turf. I couldn't tell you if the stretch at York is flat... Adagio showed a turn of foot in the Craven as well. Mike will have to keep this guy close enough to the pace by the time the other contenders really start to kick if he wants any shot here. |
