Default 7/29: Saratoga (Day 5) No plays..

The weather dolts said it was supposed to be a miserable day with driving rain, occasional fire and intermittent brimstone. Instead, it was one of the most gorgeous days I think I recall at Saratoga... The racing was wild with bombs flying and many people around Carolina Barbecue celebrating monster scores. Not me.. but many.

Lawyer Ron ran away from the Whitney field dashing the P4 in the final leg on a track that was giving off the pace runners no hope. Having My Typhoon and Ginger Punch as on top winners wasn't any stroke of genius Saturday, but the one that excruciatingly got away from my own wagers was the Vanderbilt. The opinion was strong utilizing 13-1 Attila's Storm and 9-1 Simon Pure with Diabolical and Commentator. But I opted to plunge on a sizeable straight win bet on my top choice of Attila, and came away with nothing in a race that produced a $519.00 trifecta. This one will not be forgotton any time soon. Hope you zigged while I zagged.

Taking a pass on a typical giveaway day Sunday... Back Monday with a card Seth Merrow and I will cover on our Capitol OTB TV-12 show "Keyword: Saratoga" 9:45-10:45. Steve Haskin (Blood-Horse) and Ed Fontaine (N.Y. Post) will be our guests. I believe you can watch the show on the stream at http://www.capitalotb.com .

Anybody up there live, say a hello for me to my former filly...Fighting Speedy in the 9th race. Only a shell of what she used to be last year when she consistently won or placed in NY F/M stakes races under Leah Gyrmardi. We claimed her 2 years ago and she was a great acquisition as she won many times for us (5) moving through all her allowance conditions and ran her heart off for us in knocking heads with the best at Aqueduct and Belmont/Saratoga meets! And she was the best in the barn around owners and our families!

Hope she's healthy to race today because her last race she was almost lapped and looked horrible in the pre race paddock and worse post race.

Best Bet
TUCKAHOE ROAD (3rd) – just missed as the favorite last time down at Belmont, turns back for this one.
Longshot
EARLY HATCH (4th) – consistent sort at this level out of town, new face in evenly matched group.

Hopefully a VET Scratch and they'll retire her to broodmare.

So close to a really nice day. Just over a length seperated me from having three winners at 21/1, 26/1 and 33/1. Tough game sometimes.
