Default Eric Gagne to Boston

Love this trade!! Okajima in the 7th, Gagne in the 8th, Papelbon to close out the ninth! Wow!

Let's go Red Sox!

this gags me...the rich keep getting richer. hurray you poor sad Boston fans who only have had to endure 2 Celtic dynasties, 3 Pat Super Bowls in 4 years and the poor Sox winning the Series finally.

...in cleveland we wait and wait some more.

Sox bullpen is scary good right now, it';s basically a six inning game with Delcarmen, Okajima, Gagne and Papelbon anchoring the pen.

the only good thing about the Red Sox is that they're not the Yankees. That's my REd Sox compliment for the day.

Great, I just added him to my fantasy team as a backup closer last week.

The only thing I can say is, I have only one Red Sox championship in my 29 years, and my father has only one in 63. So I think we know what it feels like to not have a championship.

I have zero cleveland championships in any sport in 41 years of living. (I don't count indoor soccer...forgive me!). I trump you and your father combined. And the Celtics, Patriots and Bruins have won how many titles in you and your father's years??? Exactly. Please do not even attempt to compare the Boston sports experience to the Cleveland sports experience. So in your 29 years you got what...3 Patriots, 2 Celtics, and one Red Sox title?? Yeah...I feel your pain...must be brutal.

Tough to disagree here, Cleveland and Buffalo come to mind on cities just getting the shank in terms of sports. The Bills losing 4 Super Bowls, the Sabres getting hosed in the Cup by Dallas...

Cleveland, the Indians sucked for so long, no one even went to the old stadium, were basically an ace away from a World Series title from 1995-2000, but management wouldn't go out and get one. The Browns left town, then reincarnated as the worst run professional sports team ever.
Tim Couch. Butch Davis. Art Modell. Then got buzzards luck and ran into the Spurs in the NBA Finals this year. Pretty shi*ty.

PS How nasty was the Indians lineup in say 1996/1997/1998?

Thome
Ramirez
Fryman
Justice
Lofton
Giles

All in their prime, too, more or less...

Gagne is a shell of his former self. Anyone who thinks otherwise must be a die hard Sox fan. HOoray for the city of Boston, whose Celts also took someone who is on the decline of a very nice career. (and I thought it was the city I live in that only did this kind of stuff )

We don't follow the Pats, or Bruins, or Celtics.

College Football, Baseball, and Horse Racing growing up for my family. So I guess if you throw in Clemson, we have 2 championships in sports. How you can combine years for multiple sports is beyond the math I am used too. However, go on with the self pity act...Seriously, every non-fairweather johnson knows what it feels like to be at the bottom...

A shell maybe, but a setup guy who in 33 and a third has given up 8 ER, K'd 29, is not what I would call a horrible pick up.

When your starters only have to go 5, possibly 6 innings before you can give the ball to 3 or 4 of the best relievers this year, it is not a bad situation.

Atlanta made the best moves this trading season, but Boston got a guy that helps the team, and makes a good bullpen even better.

Also, who cares about Basketball?

If your starters only go 5 and 6 innings a game. I'd be worry about overuse of the bullpen.

Gagne is already known for his health problems his entire career.

Papelbon
Gagne
Okajima
Timlin
Delcarmen
Lopez

I am not really worried about overuse. If Gagne pitched two nights in a row, then you can use Timlin to give a break, or Delcarmen. Gagne and Papelbon won't see more then an inning a game, and they don't have to, and won't pitch every game.

Knowing Schilling only has to give 5 or 6 good innings a start is a comfort. Same for Wakefield.

Trust me, they won't be taking out Beckett or Matsuzaka in the 5th or 6th if they are throwing great, but if there stuff is starting to get hit, why not give it over if you have the arms, and fresh arms.
