This mentions 7 of them...... Mountain High is interesting, but why oh why do they not run a pacemaker for Youmzain???Jaber Abdullah surely has a horse who could do the job!!

from racingpost!

YOUMZAIN delighted Mick Channon in his winding-up gallop for the Grosser Preis Von Baden on Tuesday morning to show himself in top form for his clash with Mountain High in Germany's premier all-aged race this Sunday.

Jodie Mogford partnered Youmzain, who will be reunited with Richard Hughes at the weekend,in a seven-furlong exercise on the summer ground with Capable Guest and Noticeable.

As lead horse Capable Guest came under pressure, Youmzain smoothly moved up to finish the work between horses with Mogford looking to have a lot of horse under him.

"I just wanted him to have some horses around him," said Channon. "I couldn't have been happier with him since Ascot and he's clearly in great nick. When he took on Mountain High in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud there was not pace and it turned into a sprint, but there looks like being a bigger field for this and we might get a decent gallop which is what he needs."

Youmzain picked-up his only previous Group 1 success when winning at Cologne last September and came back from his Saint-Cloud defeat to finish a four lengths runner-up to Dylan Thomas in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Twelve horses are entered at Baden-Baden including the Mark Johnston duo Hearthstead Maison and Champery aas well as Michael Jarvis's Pressing, while Clive Brittain is set to run Hattan.

Quijano, a winner in Dubai in the spring, is set to represent top German trainer Peter Schiergen.

Out of all the horses mentioned, Youmzain is the only proven Gr1 horse.

Agreed!

Thanks for the update, Brock.

No Chance..... looking at all the wins Quijano has it's just a matter of time, no?

Favorite horse in the race will be well back but wishing a safe trip home to Hattan who i wish would be entered in something a little less tough.

I'm not convinced with Quijano. I know he has lots of wins, but most of those are just from handicap company, and one Gr3 win. The very fact that Lost Soldier Three finished 3rd holds the form of that race down quite a bit.

He was fairly well beaten in the Sheema classic, and don't forget that Youmzain was 3rd that day.

He then only managed 10th in another Gr3, before collecting a very weak listed race on his final start.

He is a good horse, but in my opinion he isn't of Gr1 standard.

Lava Man would be well suited for the job and has nothing better to do.

Could he even manage to be a rabbit outside CA???

What has gone wrong with this horse? I like him, but he has been overhyped, right?

He's done a pretty good job of running six furlongs and then quitting outside of California.

Poly is what went wrong with him. He was certainly overhyped. Caught an extremely weak stretch in California. Had Borrego been the gelding instead of Lava Man he could have gone on the same run against the weak group out there.

Roadking managed to find it.....

Baden-Baden 2 September 2007
4:00 135TH GROSSER PREIS VON BADEN (GROUP 1) (3YO+) (3yo+) Winner £101,351.00 1m4f GOOD

No. Form Horse Trainer RTF % Wgt Jockey
1(4) 5255 Egerton 21 P Rau 6 9-6 T Mundry 126 110
2(3) 5131 Mountain High 70 Sir Michael Stoute 5 9-6 Ryan Moore 131 119
3(1) 3137 Prince Flori 36 S Smrczek 4 9-6 A De Vries 130 115
4(7) 1701 Quijano 28 P Schiergen 5 9-6 A Starke 123 111
5(5) -189 Sommertag 35 J Hirschberger 4 9-6 T Hellier 111 -
6(6) 3352 Youmzain 36 M R Channon 4 9-6 Richard Hughes 131 130
7(9) 1611 Adlerflug 63 J Hirschberger 3 8-9 F Johansson 127 -
8(2) -212 Axxos 50 P Schiergen 3 8-9 E Pedroza 120 94
9(8) 1332 First Stream 21 Mario Hofer 3 8-9 C-P Lemaire 124 -

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Adlerflug, the seven-length winner of the Deutsches Derby two months ago, will start a warm favourite. But he is facing older horses for the first time and represents no value at the likely odds.
YOUMZAIN and Mountain High are experienced campaigners at this level and should have the edge on him. Slight preference is for Youmzain. Although he finished behind Mountain High - and Prince Flori - in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, his overall profile seems just the stronger.\n
Quijano won a remarkable ten in a row before the sequence was broken in the Sheema Classic, in which he was behind Youmzain. He still deserves respect. Prince Flori, twice a course winner, has finished behind both Mountain High and Youmzain this summer. Axxos and First Dream have been placed in good races but will need to step up to figure here.[DCS]

* * *

Thank God Hattan isn't running here.

Have said all along it'll be Quijano BUT that Axxos is a nice horsie indeed.

Hmmm....

Quijano / Axxos / with either Mountain high or Youmzain underneath. Will be happy with any of the 4.....

Cool for Quijano and his connections. I am surprised though. I bet Mick Channon is scratching his head over Youmzain now, if he can't win a Gr1 in Germany (no offence to the German horses) he won't win another Gr1 anywhere.

Was talking to a German friend online the other day (hopefully she will come on here sometime soon) and apparently the connections of Quijano had valid excuses for his previous two below par runs, and a bold show was expected of him. They were right.

Another thing, which i didn't know about German racing are some of the crazy rules, which they have. He bumped one rival quite badly and basically put him out of the race, so the winning connections have to give compensation out of the winnings to the connection of the horse that was bumped. So, in reality, if you bump one of your main rivals really badly and put them out of the race, the result won't change but you'll just have to pay some compensation....... as my friend said....... it's crazy!

Happy for Quijano, and wish i never doubted him, but i didn't realise about the valid excuses for his latest performances before this race.

Still really disappointed with Youmzain, as Brock said, i haven't got a clue why they didn't use a pacemaker for him.
