Vic's doing some work in the 49ers - Vikings game. Frank Mirahmadi is today's announcer at Hollywood Park.

Thanks, Bogey, for update. I have seen Frank on TVG when I visit relatives. (No satelitte here, yet...) He is very knowledgable and entertaining in his betting choices there.

Is Frank calling the races with his Vic voice or his own?

I loved that place. Omaha was such a great horse racing city.

So sad to lose Ak.

I did not know that. As you well know, AKsarben went from a top ten track in the naton during the late 70's through early 80's only to close due to other forms of gambling. With the combination that there is not much going on in Nebraska and the love for horse racing, it's hard to imagine that they only have Fonner Park now.

Vic,

Made one trip to Aksarben when I was living in Kansas City. Must have been in 1985... My pal Phil and I drove up, did great at the windows and then went to Johnny's in the Yards for steaks.. A fabulous afternoon that always generates fond recollections of Omaha.

Vic, how did you call the last race at Ak-Sar-Ben? Where was Terry Wallace?
There are always rumors of a new 1 mile oval surfacing in the state. One of the latest is to re-locate the state fair here in Lincoln. The university would take over the land occupied by the fairgrounds and expand the campus. The racetrack and state fair would re-locate to the Lancaster county events center in the north part of town. I can see the university expansion going through, but hard to see voters setting aside money for the "evils" or parimutual racing. (I'm sure Tom Osbourne will stand up again against the evils of gambling. Wonder if he knows about the millions being wagered every week on college football?)

I knew there was a reason it closed. Just didn't know why.

Let's hope you don't call the last race ever run at Hollywood Park.

Terry was actually thrice removed from Ak-Sar-Ben. He had left to work full time at Oaklawn well before. When I was hired I took over for Richard Grunder who had replaced Chris Kotulak.

I'd love to see racing come back to Omaha. Those people really love the races.

If I do I hope it's in about 30 years.

I remember Chris Kotulak calling the races at Fonner Park in Grand Island (don't remember him at Ak). He was a goofball but a lot of fun. When he got the call "to the big league" out West he kinda choked and seemed lost. I think TVG hired him to be "a face" and see if he could salvage any sort of career. At TVG it seems he has had a chance to settle down and re-gain his stride a bit; though I don't think he is the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Chris had been very critical of my work both on and off the air. As for his career I see no need to comment.

I worked with him a couple of times on TVG. He took some shots at me and I ignored them.
