Default DRF/NHC Contest Players 'Tour'

http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/nat...dicappers.aspx

On Thursday, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and Daily Racing Form (DRF) announced the creation of the tour, a year-long bonus series offering additional prize money and qualifying berths to the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship. The NHC Tour will be open to officially registered contestants and will be based on performances at NHC qualifying events throughout the year.

I would urge all DTers to check this out and get involved. If you have never played in a tournament, now there is a good reason to give it a shot. If you have been playing, you now have at least 100,000 reasons to try and play more.

I co-authored an article which appeared last fall in the Horseplayer magazine which proposed this idea. Following that, I was also part of the focus group with the NTRA which made brought this idea to fruition. In a sport where we regularly say that no one listens to horse players and no one cares about the bettor, this is a huge step forward.

Is it like the And1 mix tape tour for horseplayers? Will they have a bus and everybody gets cool nicknames?

It would seem to be so much easier - and the field sizes would be much larger - if they had all of these events throughout the tour online.

Hummm .... Horseplayers After Dark, instead of Poker After Dark ... I see books, t-shirt marketing, groupies, DVD sales, fan clubs ....

It really depends on how many of these they plan on having. For this to be successful and gather a following, they probably can only have 8-10 TOUR events in the year. Looking forward to reading about it and seeing what they are planning

Agreed. I'd play regularly online but only live if it is in close proximity to where I live.

This tour will use the already extisting tournament schedule which means that there will be about 50 lives contests and another 20 on-line events. There will be plenty of opportunity for anyone to get involved. Look at the lineup from this year (http://www.drf.com/nhc/2007/qualifiers.html) to get a sense of just how many tournaments there are.
