Default Five Star Thief

a five star monster in my opinion, defintely one to keep an eye on. Broke last, then made this huge monster move while going wide, to win going away. Very nice run, look to see more things from this horse

That was an impressive effort...nice horse...ran green too....seems to be a lot of ability there, but I guess you would hope for that if you spent a half a million on a bust sire like Cat Thief....should go further too..

Joel, Just thought I'd let you know (I assume Five Star Thief is a 2 year old), since we're on the topic, that Jump Start had another winner last night....that's 4, and I'm pretty darn thrilled. I wasn't sure what to think about his offspring as far as how they'd do as babies; Jump Start was precocious in winning the Saratoga Special but he was a big horse. He was still learning the game when he got hurt. I know you have a weanling by Jump Start, and since you've thought that he'd do well as a sire, I figured I'd give you a heads up.

Thanks a bunch! Yeah, I really like Jump Start....He has a half sister by Ole Triest named Steady Course and she ran a FG when I wokred there and let me tell you, she MAY have beaten Ashado in the FG Oaks had she not broken down in mid-stretch and never race again....she blew up on the turn effortlessly under Sellers and I swear I thought she was going to make it close (I bet Ashado and she was the only filly that I was nervous about when they turned for home)....she cruied to the second position almost under her own courage, running by Victory USA like she was standing still and then took a bad step and was eased home last, while Ashado won easily and Victory USA came back top get second (only because Steady Course broke down)...Dallas Stewart was sick....you want to talk about a filly with endless talent that never got to really show it..It was her....I love that whole family..

Old Trieste had the worst luck, dying young, and his talented offspring have suffered the same fate. I was sickened at the news about Venetian Sunset, a half to Strong Hope. Now whether he was classy enough to be a stakes horse, who knows, but he seemed to have brilliant talent. I remember Steady Course - I hope she at least survived to make it as a broodmare? Jump Start has a full sister who is very talented but I doubt she'll ever run again. I forget her name (Classic something?), but she was trained by Todd Pletcher; she ran 1:10 and change in her debut last year and was being pointed to the Frizette. Since then, absolutely nothing. That family is very unsound, unfortunately.

One horse who I think could turn out to be a very interesting sire is Flatter (yes, another Indy, I know...lol). He is a full brother to Congrats, but with much more brilliance. He only raced 4 times, but showed tons of talent. He's got the Indy/Mr. P cross and is from a brilliant family. He's an unknown, but one who could make some noise, I think.

Flatter had lots of promise but had the chance to prove its class, but didnt quite pass. Still could be a great sire

Two Indy nuts on one board? I know I've found a safe haven, then. I post on another board and I swear, you'd think Indy was the worse sire in the world (his offspring are plodders, etc......).

Jump Start was a gorgeous animal - as a baby, he looked like a stallion; I thought he was the spitting image of Storm Cat. His career after the Saratoga Special is vaguely fuzzy to me- did he run 3rd in the Hopeful? Anyway, he ran pretty well behind Officer in the Juvy -I had such high hopes for his future......sigh. Racing goes and tricks you into loving a horse, then takes him away. Seattle, I agree -thank goodness the horse just survived to be a stud. If I recall, it was a bad injury and he only survived because he had the class and temperment which allowed him to (that's not my opinion, I remember the vets commenting on this).

Well, he ran in one stakes race and did quite well, but I blamed his trainer (Steve Penrod, I think) for spotting him poorly. After all sprints, they run him against Perfect Drift in the Washington Park Handicap at two turns.....huh? AT the time, PD was really good- that as just a bad spot for Flatter; I really wanted him to get a stakes win and would have preferred a more realistic spot (assuming he'd work his way up the ladder). Of course, I figured Flatter would win many stakes, but he injured himself......they tried to bring him back, but to no avail. Now that was a frustrating horse to follow.
