Default New York

I'm sure if I went back and read every thread pertaining to NYRA and the OTBs that I could get a clear understanding of all the issues that cause New York to be totally screwed up, but in the interest of time and my own laziness....

If anyone wants to educate me as to the relationship between NYRA, the State of New York, the OTBs, etc., and why everything is (seemingly) so screwy, I would appreciate it greatly. My email address is justindew76@yahoo.com.

No need to send a book. I'm just looking for enough info so that I can finally understand all the op/ed pieces that I read.

Muchas gracias!

Instead of reading all of the op-ed pieces, just read the board.

Here's the Cliff notes version.

POLITICIAN'S SUCK BIG-TIME.

That should make things much clearer for you.

Here's the thing. I have no idea how the OTBs can be losing money. So there is clearly something I am missing somewhere.

I'm am not the official czar on the subject, but this is what I gather. NYCOTB has to pay the state something like 5 million dollars a year just to offer wagering on Thoroughbred racing at night. This has been going on for years now. The state created NYCOTB and has their hands so deep in the pockets that NYCOTB pays more out to the state then they take in in profits. When they say they "lose money" they actually don't "lose money" they just give it all to the state, and then some from what Bloomberg has been saying.

That is going to be a long e-mail.
DrugS might even be able to analyze Street Sense's victory in the '07 Derby in fewer words than it would take to sum up that mess.

Actually only small parts of this are completely accurate. Listen to the podcast of Steves show today with Steve Crist and you can hear a nice short version. Basically NYCOTB is lying.

It's too long to write out, and I'm sure Crist explained it perfectly, but the entire thing is a joke and a complete distortion of reality.

Here is link to Hour 2 of Wednesday's ATR which features Steve Crist for 30 min. regarding the publication (2/25) of 'Bet With the Best 2: Longshots', followed by 15 min. on the NYRA & NYC-OTB situations...

http://www.thoroughbredracingradione...y=20&Itemid=35

Hour 3 includes a surprise call-in from David Carroll (Denis of Cork/Blackberry Road) in Gary West's segment and is well worth hearing too.. Haskin in Hour 1 recapping the Southwest and Sam Davis too!
