Default Pre-Oscar movie chit chat

Okay, name the single best film you saw in the past year and ten of your favorites of all time just for fun.

Who wants to go first?

Nice list, GB.

Yeah, I'd agree about Godfather III.

Best film in the past year, The Kite Runner

Top ten off the top of my head.....

La Strada (Fellini's masterpiece)
The Boys in the Band (best dialogue EVER... Mart Crowley, from his play)
Ball of Fire (favorite screwball comedy)
Strangers on a Train (favorite Hitchcock)
8 and a half (another Fellini)
Die Xue Jie Tou (A Bullet in the Head) (John Woo directed)
Godfather II (Nuf said)
You Can't Take it With You (fantastic writing)
Wings of Desire (Wim Wenders.... maybe a little dated now but still... stunning)
The English Patient (sweeping shots, great music, nothing is what it seems, the only movie i ever liked better than the book)

I have no top ten list but the best film I saw last year is "This is England"

close second is "The Wind that Shakes the Barley".....though I will never watch it again because I cried like a baby through half the film.

It's funny but I only know one other person who loved that film and I think he read the book too.....

Fills in the blanks.

Not my usual kinda film. I love war movies, gangster movies too but yeah..... the music makes me melt and the shots are stunning. Collin Firth doesn't exactly hurt.

There Will Be Blood is good but primarily due to Daniel Day-Lewis' performance.
