Default Oaklawn 10th on Friday DQ

Anybody see the head-on? Tough beat for trainer Chad Brown. Nice kid from the Saratoga area who went out on his own after the Breeder's Cup. He worked for Frankel the last 5 years and Shug before that.
I spoke to Chad last pm and he felt he was hurt with some "home-cooking" by Borel and Holthus. There was an objection by Borel late, actually while Chad and his connections were having thier photo made. The stewards never indicated an inquiry.

That sucks. I didn't see it but will have to check it out. I know his Dad posts on another board and seems like a great guy.

It's hard to believe there would be any " home-cookin' " in Arkansas.

I just watched the pan, head-on, and pan again to see when the horse came over.

Home-cookin' is, IMO, an understatement. That was out and out robbery of the worst kind. Disgraceful misuse of power would be a more apt description.

Thanks for checking. I felt this was a bad break for Chad. He told me they love Holthus so much there that he has the keys to open up the track in the morning. "Home-cooking" Oaklawn Park style! Tough loss for an up and coming trainer.

I haven't watched the race but if he genuinely got shafted, I don't understand why he and/or the owner don't take some LEGAL action. If you're wrong and you can prove it, within reason, then you should be compensated.

Why does this seem to be prevalent in this country but is nonexistant in horse racing. Why do tracks have all this power? Maybe if SOMEONE (individual or collective body) got sick and tired of taking the ****, be it trainers, owners, OR BETTORS, maybe some of this BS (incompetant or othewise) will go away.

We have an ideal model to work with here: the Hong Kong Jockey Club. No reason we should be settling for less.

This is the most interesting thread to me on here right now, please stop that Curlin one. I wish I wasn't stuck in the woods with a dial-up connection, I'd love to see the race. I know Holthus is god down there and all, but if this is true it sucks not just for the trainer, but for the horseplayers as well.
They do have some strange DQ's at Oaklawn, I remember one last year where they took 2 horses all the way down, and they only seemed to interfere with each other.

don't all tracks have an appeals process? i would be on that with both feet if it's that bad of a dq.

No there is no appeals process in most places for DQ's. You have to take legal action which rarely works because these are judgement calls.

really? hell, i thought judging by appeals such as the one filed when a horse didn't carry his jock from 'riders up' to the gate (he dumped him and ran off) that all tracks had some kind of process to go thru...

well, then that sucks.

I believe that you can file an appeal on a technical matter but not a judgement call. Of course it is very rare when any thing is ever changed
