State racing stewards in Arkansas disqualified Valhol as the winner of the April 10 Arkansas Derby and suspended jockey Billy Patin yesterday after concluding he carried a banned electrical device.

At a hearing in Little Rock, stewards ordered that Valhol's $300,000 winner's share of the purse be returned and redistributed. Certain, the second-place finisher, was declared the winner.

Patin was fined $2,500 and suspended through the end of 1999 -- the maximum punishment available to stewards. The three-member panel referred the matter to the Arkansas Racing Commission with the suggestion that it extend Patin's suspension through May 5, 2004.

Mouton is cursed I guess.... First EJ Perrodin gets busted up at T-Giving..
then he turned to Patin as his go-to rider... now what???? Probably one of the Meche boys.... TIP when Mouton has a longshot entered... always watch first flash.... especially on turf... I have made up for many bad days with this angle...

Don't know one Patin from another. I just remember the name because I remember the incident. I live in Hot Springs and the buzzer incident was understandably in the news at the time it happened and later on when Valhol's owner went to court here to try to keep the purse money and later on still I was at the track when Certain was led to the winner's circle to finally get his due.
