Default Tampa Saturday 03-15-08 Derby Day

A couple of notes. It rained 0.91" yesterday so the early grass races are most likely off the turf and the Stakes will be running on at a minimum "good" turf.

Dirt track may start off as "good" but will quickly be upgraded to "fast".

Two Pick 4's today starting in Races 5 and 9.

Default Late P4

Pretty chalky though the 11th is completely wide open...spreading deep and hope to catch a price and punching the ticket a few times:

Race 9
3 Dreaming of Anna
2 Lear's Princess

Race 10
6 My Baby Baby
3 Calico Bay

Race 11
10 Lookinforthesecret
1 Prosico
3 Uncledannysbrother
7 Around the Cape
4 Fort Prado
6 Dead Red

Race 12
3 War Pass

2,3//3,6//1,3,4,6,7,10//3 = 24.00

I'm predicting the lowest P4 payout in TBD history.

Lear's Princess
Lookinforthesecret (I beg to differ with RBE, this one is a lock)
My Baby Baby
War Pass

Cold

Default Blast for the Past

Quantum Merit is entered in the 7th...I completely forgot about this guy...Thought they retired him to stud years ago...nothing like coming back at 9yo off a 4 and a half year layoff...sure hope he shows well, I'd love to have another old guy around to root for !

Bigs - Wow, a lock?? 5f sprint over what is going to be very soft footing (My guess is it should be classified as yielding, if not it's as close to that as it gets)..I'd be a fool not to use him, but look at the 1 two back going 5f over a soft grass course...There's just too many decent horses in here with recent turf sprinting experience...That said I'll bet the 24 dollar ticket, Ness wins, and it'll pay 18.60....

I see the 4th was pulled off the turf, otherwise there would have been another lock imo. Hatta Fort comes from Gr1 races last year against the best 2yo's in Europe. he is miles better than the field he was to face. i'm assuming he'll be scratched.

I see it a different way

Lear's
Elusive Lady
Fort Prado
War Pass

And if Awesome Chic gets a rider he is a decent play on the stretchout, I am surprised that horse isn't in new hands

I don't think that much of Lookingforthe secret today. Too short, too soggy, too far out. I'll try The Nth Degree at 5-1+. Beat far better his 2nd out last year.

In the TB Derby, it will be interesting to see if Cigar Man breaks well enough and gets sent hard enough to put War Pass 3rd early. I'm on Atoned today.

Elusive Lady will need to overcome the fact that....I'm betting on her today

Thanks Bruce.

BTW all the credit in the world for Scavs getting me to take another look at Awesome Chic in the Oaks. I was not going to include until I talked to him and he said take a look at her. Thanks to Scavs. I will make it up to him sooner than later......
