Default Rags to Riches Retired

Rags to Riches retired: http://www.drf.com/news/article/93176.html

"It's the same injury, a hairline P1 fracture, and it just looked like it wasn't going to hold up," Pletcher said. "I wasn't happy with the way she galloped yesterday [Sunday], we took some additional X-rays, and after discussing the situation with Mr. Tabor, we agreed it wasn't worth the risk of continuing on with her."

Gee I am soooo shocked!

Is this April 1st? It's got to be some kind of a joke. Right?

Not a joke... Only question is if Tabor sells her potential colt? I doubt he would sell her first filly.

I kinda figured this after the Belmont and was totally shocked to see her run in the race after, which i cannot remmeber the name of, the horse is just too valuable and her foal will go for HUGE money if its "correct". By Giantscauseway you would think that would make for a good match on paper right??? Anyway, im not too bummed b/c she did give us not only the best racing moment last year but def. one of the top 10 from the entire year.

Why is a good match because Tabor owns GC and it's free?

Not that surprising, but sad nonetheless.
I would have loved to seen her race another year.

not surprised, but disappointed... ought to breed her to Hard Spun, since he already knows what she looks like from behind...

Well it is unfortunate for sure, but like many not surprised to hear the news.. I suppose we have the huge filly Magnificience to look forward returning soon. Got an notification that she worked in 58 today so not too far off...Too bad those two never met. What a race it may have been .

They're not breeding her to sell her I'm sure.

It's actually almost like a death in this case as although her racing moments were few they were extremely memorable for me. Nice closing kick...

I really enjoyed "Rags" immensely more so than any of last years very capable 3 year old class. That Belmont will stay with me for a very long time....I thought it was the moment that defined 2008 actually and I am sad she won't ever get a chance to mow'em down in the stretch like few could....she was not around long enough to be considered truly great but she was a horse who's career had moments that will be discussed for decades to come especially the Belmont beating of the boys...yeah, there is loss there for a sentimental fool like myself.

I didn't have a dime bet on her. My wagers were with Curlin and Hard Spun.
I was in the stands of Belmont Park on the 2nd level grandstand between the 1/16 pole and Finish Line. As they turned for home I had goose bumps. I've never felt that during a horse race. At that point my bets became secondary and I knew I was watching something that might be very special. Sure enough Rags won. I lost out on the pick four I would have hit but it was worth being there in person to witness her historic victory.
