Default West coast horsies - where they are headed

– Santa Anita Handicap and Hollywood Gold Cup winner Lava Man went to the track Wednesday for the first time for a gallop over the Del Mar oval as he begins his serious preparations for the Grade I, $1-million Pacific Classic Sunday, August 20. Trainer Doug O’Neill said the big gray multi-million-dollar winner would work a couple times before the race. Lava Man is the first horse to have the chance to win Southern California’s Big Three events in one season, and O’Neill noted that adds pressure to the situation, but is confident the horse will respond well … Trainer Ron Ellis said Declan’s Moon, who suffered his first career defeat last Sunday, is still being pointed toward Del Mar’s Grade II, $300,000 Pat O’Brien Breeders’ Cup Handicap at 7 furlongs on Sunday, August 20. Ellis said Buzzards Bay is also in his Del Mar barn and will be training toward either the Pacific Classic or the Del Mar Breeders’ Cup Mile (Saturday, August 26) … Another Pacific Classic prospect, Magnum, is scheduled to work a half-mile Thursday for trainer Darrell Vienna. Vienna will send multiple stakes winner Star Parade 3 furlongs also on Thursday as she is being prepared for the Grade II, $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Handicap Sunday, August 6. Vienna’s Cheroot is being prepped for the first running of the California Dreamin’ Handicap Friday, August 4,

Heading the Baffert contingent were Dr. McDreamy, Malt Magic and Silver Light, who all fired bullets at 5 furlongs in 58.20. The 2-year-old trio worked out of the starting gate toward what will be their first starts.
Baffert also turned loose a couple of his 3-year-old stakes winners – Sinister Minister, who won the Grade I Blue Grass Stakes prior to finishing 16th in the Kentucky Derby, and Wanna Runner, who finished 10th in the Queen’s Plate after winning the Lone Star Derby. Sinister Minister was clocked in 1:02 for 5 furlongs and Wanna Runner went the same distance in 1:00. Baffert trainee My Miss Storm Cat zipped 6 furlongs in a bullet 1:11.80.

Arson Squad, trained by Bruce Headley, worked 5 furlongs in a sharp 58.80 as he continued to prep for a probable start in the Grade II, $400,000 Del Mar Derby on Sunday, September 3. He’ll be changing surfaces, from dirt to turf, but Headley has said the son of Brahms has a pedigree for the grass.
A Del Mar start for Captain Squire is a distinct possibility, said trainer Jeff Mullins, but a decision on where it will be has not been made. The old warrior, who was runner-up to Beau’s Town in the 2003 Bing Crosby Handicap, was clocked in 59.60 for 5 furlongs.

Black and White is my favorite. Secret ingredient being Vanilla extract but man did I over do it last night. Came out with a very strong vanilla flavor. Not my best, but still delicious. I'll try again at lunch time as it is another hot one today and I plan on cooling my jets in the park with the ducks and a shake. I'll ask them who they like in the San Diego race.

I had a real nice Cookies & Cream shake at Cold Stone the other night and the price wasnt really all that bad, maybe $4. For a 20oz shake that made me feel like I was in heaven, $4 was a bargain. For those 10 minutes, all was very well in my world.
