Can't say much about him from a breeding standpoint, but he was very fast in his prime. His '05 San Felipe was one of the more impressive Derby prep wins of the past decade, IMO..

Funny to look back on that race and see the tactics used on Giacomo in that race.

That was a very speed biased track that was yielding LIGHTNING FAST final times.

Eh, I have no way of proving you wrong, but I remember it differently.

I think a maiden claimer went like 1:08 flat on that card.

Perhaps the speed bias part could be up for debate - however - that was an insanely fast track.

I believe Consolidator only got like a 98 Beyer in victory - even though the final time was clearly the fastest in San Felipe history - and some mighty fine horses have won the SF as you know.

However, I also know that it was the only route race on the card - and anyone who could tell you they could put an exact fig on that race is full of crap.

I went to Cal Racing - the super fast maiden race on the card was 30 minutes before the San Felipe - a Cal bred maiden named Family Guy went wire-to-wire.

He set fractions of 21.26, 43.89, 55.43, and his final time was 1:01.80

1:01.80 at 5.5 furlongs basically equalls 1:07 4/5ths at six furlongs on a parallel time chart.

Are races Digital or hand timed ?
Over here metro races are digital ie a receiver in the race number but provincial & bush are hand timed so sometimes there is a let us say few errors of a second

Thanks DrugS. Guess I remembered and should change it to "visually impressive".
