Default Barn collapse at Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) -- At least one person is injured
after the collapse of a horse barn at Saratoga Race Course.
Rescuers pulled the unidentified man from the wreckage at the
Oklahoma Training Track, which is across the street from the main
thoroughbred track. He was taken to a local hospital.
Albany television station WRGB reported that a second person was
injured in the 8 a.m. collapse Thursday morning.
Police did not provide details when contacted by The Associated
Press.
There were no initial reports of any horses injured.

Good thing it happened now. Might be time to start laying out plans to upgrade the barns. They got lucky escaping with just one injury.

the barn was under renovations when it collapsed....guess they better hire better renovators...injuries don't appear to be serious

Yeah, I'd say so! At least it is good to know it was under renovations though and didn't just happen randomly.

I thought Sciacca's pie stash brought it down.

You'd have a hard time getting me to put any of my horses in any similar barns there. In the collapsed barn, you can see the old timbers and the thinner wood pieces they used to span the old.

Most of the barns on the Oklahoma side are in horrible shape. I was in the same barn for a couple of years and the doors were constantly falling of the hinges, and the floor board of the stall walls were worn and rotten. The carpenters were in high demand. Also most of the barns had no shedrow to walk under when it was raining..NYRA should do a complete renovation soon..

Renovations must be done and preserve the historical integrity as it is deemed a national historical site
