Default Backbackbackgone

Let me be the first to say that this horse has the looks of a serious runner. I like him a lot.

Cheers to Gerson Racing screwing me.

I picked him on Steve's show before he debuted at Bay Meadows.

He actually entered a maiden race at Hollywood Park a few days earlier and scratched - a race where he figured to go off in the 8-to-1 to 20-to-1 odds range and would have certainly won easily.

Instead of getting to make a real score with him - I got a double digit margin victory going 4.5 furlongs as the 8/5 2nd choice at Bay Meadows - followed up by a walk in the park stakes win at 4/5 at Hollywood.

Very happy for them... some of the kindest people ever.

He was going to be part of an entry at Hollywood that day. He was coupled with The Final Roar. You would have been lucky to get 6-1 that day. The Final Roar was considered the weaker part of the entry and he ended up going off at 9-1.

I loved the way he ran at Bay Meadows. I didn't like the fact that he didn't switch leads in the stakes race at Hollywood. He switched perfectly in the race at BM. When a horse who knows how to switch won't switch, that's not a good sign.

Vic's call of the finish, Backbackbackgone could....go...all...the...way (I am paraphrasing with a very bad memory) this weekend made the ESPN top 10 the next morning.

what happened to their 2yo's from last year? it seems that they specialize in winning with 2yo's.

The Final Roar was purchased from the same sale and cost a little more money and also had slightly faster works.

If BBBG had any real buzz to him - why wasn't he favored in that horrendous looking MSW race at Bay Meadows - and why wouldn't the stronger part of the entry debut at Hollywood and the weaker part at Bay Meadows?

The Final Roar would have won that very soft BM race by a few lengths - and I think might have been shorter than 8/5 doing it.

Either way - it annoyed me that I lost value on BBBG because I would have bet him debuting against anyone in any kind of spot.

They actually both cost the same. They both sold for $65k at OBS March. BBBG was showing the faster works. He was showing a :47 2/5 bullet work from the gate. BBBG got a lot of action in the race at BM. They bet him down to 8-5 from his 5-2 morning line.

I know that Pete has always thought that BBBG was the much better horse of the two. I don't know why he decided to run BBBG up North and not the other horse. I will find out though. I agree with you that The Final Roar would have won the race up North.

You're right that he did have the fastest work on the go-back. But his most recent work going into the race was a 49.40 work at SLR.

The Final Roar had a 49.00 work at San Luis Rey in his most recent work.

Either way - it's done now and I can't do nothing but whine about it. I did make a little money with him at BM anyway.

I wonder if the owners will have to catch a ride with Donald Trump again

quote:"Co-owners Walter and George Abt flew in from New York to watch the race and nearly missed it. "Our private jet had some engine problems and we didn't think we would make the race, but Donald(Trump) was coming this way anyway so we hitched a ride with him. We couldn't be any happier. Peter (Miller) has done an excellent job with all of our horses." said Walter

Something seems to be wrong - he again would not change leads, and it cost him.

Props to the winner, who was touted on racing radio this morning. First graded stakes win for the trainer, who was diagnosed with ALS this year.

Allen Benowitz of Thro Graph was the one that said he had an improving pattern and he was going to use him on top.
