Exclamation Fire at Utica Club Brewery

Flames broke out on the second floor at approximately 5 p.m in the F.X. Matt Brewery in Utica N.Y. which is home of Utica Club beer....judging from this article just posted, it doesn't look good

I just bought the only remaining Saranac I hadn't had at Mahar's cause I figured prices would skyrocket tomorrow. We were actually joking that Utica Club would see a huge boost in sales. I didn't realize they brewed UC at Saranac as well. I heard the Ubu from Lake Placid is brewed there too which is an outstanding beer. Hope you've stocked up on your favorite beer, worst case you have less than two months until Saratoga season where they'll be beer galore.

Yeah, they brew Saranac at FX Matt and Genesee, and "The Club" there too. Not good news...

Genny is made in Rochester N.Y. not in Utica. Thier old slogan from the 80's was "our one brewery makes it best".

I worded that poorly... Saranac is also brewed at the Genny plant (as is some Sam Adams).

Trust me, I grew up next to the Genny brewery, I smelled (and drank) it every day of my teen years. I know where it's brewed

Lots of beer is made up there including Flying Fish Farmhouse and most (if not all) of the bottled Brooklyn product.

Brewing process not affected too much...Most of the damage in the canning area from welders...The beer shall continue to flow and they will be shipping it elsewhere for canning.

Not sure if Saranac Thursday Nights are still happening at the Brewery...

Sorry to hear the news Hoff.

On another note:

When I was a poor college kid at S.U.C.O. at Oneonta, there was nothing like those cheap Genny Creme Ale's

Ah yes, Oneonta...my buddy went to S.U.C.O. between 1984 & 1987 and my step-daughter graduated from Hartwick last year. It was the ultimate party town in upstate N.Y.

Don't recall those names , but there were many foggy nights back then.
