Default Best Use of an Extra $250k

So let's see, Churchill has cut purses by 20% this meet but they came up with the brilliant idea to add $250k to the purse of the Foster as an incentive to get Curlin to run there. Now, to be fair, the money is not coming out of the horsemen's purse account but rather, it's coming from a marketing account set aside for special circumstances. As I said, it's a brilliant move on Churchill's part to secure the presence of the reigning HOY and pry him away from the other race that they were considering for him on June 14th. Oh wait.......

Hmmm.. A thread about one of the premier dirt races in the country raising its purse by 33% to attract a horse.. Or a thread about one typo in an article nobody cares about..

Which seems more relevant, Mr. Hard Spun is Sore?

I'm not Mr. Hard Spun is sore. Get your facts straight, cuz yours aren't even close.

So, the premiere news organization in the world confusing the nationality of the owner of a horse with the nation where the horse was bred is not humorous on some level, considering the crappy overall coverage this sport gets? Well, I disagree.

Also, I'm not breaking your balls for posting the Churchill story. I'm breaking your balls for breaking my balls for doing exactly what you did.

This is news. You reported a typo. I'm pretty sure you can tell the difference, but I digress.

Agreed with Chuck and letswastemoney. It seems more like a ploy to get horses to run against him rather than to get him.

Was it also a typo when the AP referred to a son of Dynaformer as "a half-brother to Barbaro"?

There's a profound difference between a typo and ignorance. (Andy, please. Resist.)

OK. You win. Tell Steve to cancel the first segment of his show tomorrow so he can properly address the AP calling Casino Drive "Japanese-bred."

I would love to know who they are trying to "lure" with the added $250? Please just give me one name.

Just throwing this out there. Just a thought. Everyone calm down....

If am not mistaken (and I often am) aren't coupled entries eliminated if the purse is a million or more in Kentucky. Not sure if this would apply here, cuz I'm not sure who is even pointing for this besides Curlin.

Do you purposely try to act like a jackass to alienate yourself in everything you do, or just here?

According to the DRF article, the race has been rewritten to require that a grade one winner start in order for the extra money to be made. If that's the case, if Curlin skips the race and Brass Hat runs, it's still a $1 million race. This will indeed "guarantee a top-notch field that will take the status of this important race to an even higher level."
Figured I'd put this here and consolidate the threads. I was actually debating on another forum with someone that said this move would help the Foster undercard. Seriously. Another said that this would help draw more horses and strengthen the Foster. Now, I could understand if Curlin's connections were debating between this race and the Suburban and Churchill did this to sway them. That would make sense. Or if they had announced it a few weeks ago and were somehow able to lure Heatseeker or Tiago over. Then it would be a great move. But to spend $250k to lure a horse that was already coming there makes no sense to me. While the poor are getting poorer, let's throw some more money to the rich. Unless of course they are thinking that this extra money will maybe lure Great Hunter or Fairbanks. Yeah, then it's worth it. One person even told me this money will help restore the Foster's reputation. Seriously.
