Is There A Lesson From Travers Day...?
I'm just curious about the group's results on "Big Days". As much as I look forward to these major racing days and the fields, I tend to do much worse than normal and I'm not sure why. Obviously, racing fate was involved yesterday, e.g. the breakdowns that probably led to the bombs in the early turf race, but I wonder if handicappers should assume a greater level of chaos on these days?
More evenly matched horses, greater potential for pace duels, more horses contesting at the head of the stretch? I know the "old hands" will say "duh...of course you do" but I just wondered if any of you fundmentally change your handicapping approach on these premier days. Thanks...... I/L

I think unlike other days, Travers day has a card everyone is pointing for so in most races all are well meant leaving less to differentiate. Other days you can find lots of horses that just don't belong and can reduce the ones that can win.
I also find it hard on these days but to be honest I can't say it's ever easy. Spyder

What I noticed on Big Days is that there is a huge bias (either for deep closers or front runners). Others may think of this as nonsense but yesterday played well for deep closers. I would expect the same bias for Pacific classic day. First three races shall give signs on what kind it is. I remember Hollywood Gold Cup day front runners were running free and untouched like Mast Track, Dearest Tricktsi and Barbeque Eddie. We will see a similar bias exists today

I wish I was at the track to see how much water they put on the track. Its hard to tell when your watching TVG. If you know, see anything let me know.
