![]() I live in CA. We always vote a democratic president, yet we voted for this discriminatory nonsense? Who cares if gays want to get married? It doesn't affect anyone!
And the thing about kids learning about gay marriage...OF COURSE they would learn about it. Just as they learn about when women got the right to vote, when blacks became free from slavery, etc. etc. I'd be disappointed if this wasn't in their history books. No one is forcing you to become gay. Just because gays get married doesn't mean you and your children suddenly become gay as well. Prop 8 is disgusting in all areas! |

I can not see how ONE black person could vote to not have equal rights... they of all people should understand. Its sick and they should be ashamed. Anyone who voted Yes for any of these Props (in az, ca and fl) should be very ashamed of themselves. |

![]() I'm shocked, SHOCKED that black people don't like gays. Who woulda thunk it?
What's really sad is that no other race (white, hispanic or asian) could do better than a 50/50 split to make up for the predictably homophobic black vote. |

![]() Seneca Falls was in 1849, and the Nineteenth Amendment wasn't until 1920. Equality takes a while. Was is Dr. King who said the arc of history is long, but it bends towards justice?
This is definitely a step back, which stinks. And I wish the gov't would take away the Mormon church's tax exempt status for this, as it sure seems that they were involving themselves in politics in ways that violate that status. Not to mention the gov't could use the tax money. ![]() Antitrust, I'm with you in that it makes no sense to me- discrimination is discrimination, but, unfortunately, a lot of people don't see it that way. A lot of African-Americans are very religious, and the American Christian faith is not particularly open to homosexuality. Those of you with newly-minted Democrat representatives (or Republican ones who are social liberals), it would be worth writing them and asking them to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. It was a bad law; one of the worst days work Clinton ever was did signing it, and it needs to go. Time for two more steps forward.

![]() Interesting article from fivethirtyeight.com dispelling the idea that Prop 8 is the fault of minority voters:
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/...p-8-myths.html Fivethirtyeight was frighteningly accurate in its predictions about the election. There was an article in New York Magazine about the founder- he started as a baseball stat compiler.
