This is a very good thing.
I know some of you do....but do more. Stop and think of what it would be like to be a kiddie....and find out your Father isn't coming back...or your Mother...or your brother or sister...you soul mate....your son...your daughter.They don't remember it just once a year. Or worse..being that soldier who knew he had but minutes or seconds to live.....and what thoughts must have gone through his mind. Think of what it must have been like to be 18 years old...and thrust into a world you had no idea could exist in civilization---overnight. And what were his last dying thoughts? What is it like for those who were in hell? What's it like to know you're dying thousands of miles from home with no family members by your side....just stench and lunacy. Think what it's like to know your commander banters with the enemy and tells him to" bring it on"...when he is no where near the place you are.....and is protected like no one is......and never ever "brought it on" himself. I think ,at least, either presidential candidate would have made me feel a lot better regarding their thinking long and hard before sending Amercians into killing zones...for different reasons maybe,but that doesn't matter. I thank them all...very,very much as well. I wish I did not have to. I don't think they gave their lives. I don't think they would want it thought that way. I do think they would like you to know what they went through and how they died....while knowingly putting their lives at risk. Some of them lost their lives knowing that fate was a possibility.I don't think they wanted to die, but well knew they were facing it all the time.

You are all too kind...but please...it's them and not me.
Here's a really good place: http://thewall-usa.com/ If you knew anyone who died in Viet Nam you can find them by searching the wall. You can then leave a comment if you want to.It's amazing...some don't have any comments at all; and too many only one or two. I remember one of my fathers best friends died there. I found his name. He had 2 comments in all this time. One was from a guy who was his buddy...he left his e-mail. I wrote him and asked him if he knew how he died. The guy actually wrote back and told me. I don't know....it was an odd feeling....but I'm glad I did it. It's small,but I think important. I think,and it's just me, if I had died in a war I would want people to know how. This is short...Ken was the guy who died: His buddy told me "Ken was an American hero"...a US Marine.Those were his exact words. He was there for everyone,he said. They were in a landing zone after a big battle and Ken was helping carry the wounded to 'copters. He got shot in the head from a sniper and died right there.

The cost of the freedoms we all enjoy is paid in full by those who died to preserve them, may they be remembered and honored always. My dad suffered all his life from the injuries he incurred in WWII, I was the lucky one and came back whole (and a lot more mature)...may our leaders, present and future, be granted the wisdom to stop the loss of our brave young men and women in unnecessary conflicts. The greatest tribute we could give to those who have fallen is to ensure that their children never follow them in early violent death!

CPL Anthony Allen from Philadelphia The 20-year-old Marine corporal had volunteered to stay an extra week in Vietnam when he was killed in Da Nang, Quang Nam Province, on July 11, 1967, after a lightning bolt ignited grenades and anti-personnel mines stored in his bunker. The Murrell Dobbins Vocational High School graduate had been on more than 30 long-range patrols as a rifleman and reconnaissance scout with the 1st Forward Reconnaisance Company of the 1st Marine Division. He was survived by his mother, to whom he wrote: "The only person Marines look up to is God."

my thanks as well to veterans everywhere. i have a couple of co-workers who are vets. i'm ex navy, have an ex air force, and an ex army...now i just need to find a former marine and coast guarder!
most of all, thanks to our youth, like my son, who are out there so we can stay here in comfort. a very touching saying, we've all seen it i'm sure: All gave some, but some gave all. i hope they will always feel the appreciation and gratitude they deserve from their fellow citizens.

They offered up their youth, their health, their lives willingly for their country. We owe them a great deal in return.
