Given the evidence, many, if not most handicappers, would view Altesse Imperiale as unsound and without talent; three major layoffs and all four of her turf races were terrible!
Bet down to the second choice at 2.70-1, the soon to be 5yo offered zero value, yet recieved a perfect trip checking in for third money, behind a very deserving and predictable winner. BBB |

Not sure about your question, but in general, bettors bet into a pool then are paid proportionately after the track takes their cut. Hope that helps. bbb |

Thanks for extending the timeframe for our answer. You mistakenly assume that all, or most bettors are handicappers; they are not. Having a set of golf clubs in your garage does not, by itself, indicate that the owner can use them. Nearly seventy percent of favorites lose. Case in point. A few years ago we went to Dueling Grounds, a small simulcast facility on the Tn-Ky border. We estimated about three hundred people in attendance. The number of DRF's.............. less than a dozen! ASU While this fillies form was not very good you apparently bet her and are certainly entitled to an opinion. From our view, she was in hand and saving some ground turned into the stretch clean, poked a head in front between calls, then ran to her past performances. Evaluating trips is often a futile task. Case in point. Last month a poster, here, called out a jock as moving too early and blowing the race. We happened to see the race and the jock never mover until the pole. The race was a four horse field and contested at five furlongs. The horse O'rangspagledator had been off for seven months and one overshined poster foolishly declared that it was a classic case of "moving to early"! Like DaHoss that poster is prone to argument at the expense of accuracy. BBB |

OK, from the top- so owning a set of golf clubs does not make you a golfer, but carrying a DRF makes you a competent handicapper? This does not pass the Bayes test. And of all places for this 'scientific' analysis, KENTUCKY DOWNS? I've been there, and while it's a lovely place for an afternoon it isn't exactly a den of sharpies, if you know what I mean. Secondly, you had a negative opinion on this horse and a positive one on the nice priced winner. How about sharing that PRIOR to the race instead of coming on here telling everyone they're idiots for betting a horse at 5/2 who "clearly is unsound and without talent" AFTER THE FACT. Perhaps that would earn you an ounce of respect which you obviously yearn for instead of filling the role PG1985 has left behind you currently hold.

Thanks for your comments. For our two cents, I congratulate your attendance at major horse racing events, and overall support of the sport. I also hear, you know your way around a bottle of the brown. Knob Creek aside. We exhaustively, explore every piece of data we can find for our pick four play. This thread caught our eye as we played the sequence. We posted a salty, three paragraph case for the winner, Talkin Indian $15, and as our custom posted that opinion, at the home forum. If money is changing hands , idiots abound; capitalism at its best. We did not call anyone an idiot. jh |

BBB, I believe since nobody on Derby Trail has a clue what "the home forum" is (and at the risk of speaking for the other memebers here, we really don't care what it is), you should probably post your three paragraph disertation here before the race if you are going to gloat about making a case for a $15 winner. |

For what it's worth and I don't really have a dog in the fight, the horse in question, Altesse Imperiale, had an absolutely perfect trip. She saved ground around the first turn, saved ground up the backstretch, briefly waited for room at the top of the stretch, went thru a huge opening at the three-sixteenths, made it to the lead and hung late. Things couldn't have gone her way any more.
