I think he lost someone there, or later in WW2. I didn't dare ask.

Here's to John, everyone else who had to deal with the memory of that day,
and every man and woman who served, and is still serving, to defend us.

The Pearl Harbor "tour"..sorry..not sure what else to call it..is sobering. To watch the oil still bubbling to the surface from the Arizona while reading the names of those lost will stick with you.

We had an old man hot walker who worked for us a few years ago , was one of the first crews to storm the beaches of Normandy , he said as the men were climbing down the ropes to board the boats to take them to land it seemed like forever before the boat filled up , it was beacsue they were being picked off one by one by snipers. He said they finally made land fall with every German gun firing at them , was crawling on the beach beside his buddy when his friends head blew off , he made it over to the cliffs with the Gremans throwing everything they had at them . When they finally reached the top and made way to the first french village , one of his buddy's snapped a few photos , come to find out that the first village they liberated was the same town a kid from France who was working for us at the time was from .
Amazing courage these men showed to save a nation of people who now act like we have never did a damn thing for them .
I know this really is a lil off the subject of Dec. 7th , but just still find it an interesting story.

When I was in college, I used to visit the local OTB. There were 'rooms' there, and I frequently this one that was pretty quiet and ended up talking to this old guy, really nice dude and ended up good friends. It was right around this time that he started telling me about how he was in Pearl Harbor, he was shaving his face when the first bombs hit. He obviously survived, but you could see in his eyes that the stories were still very vivid to him. That is when I first started to understand what war does to people, countries and families.
