Default Aldebutante surgery successful..

Email earlier to Aldebutante/Rampillion partners...

Difficult news to report... Aldebutante exited Tuesday's workout with an injury to her left front knee that will require surgery to remove a small chip.

This report late yesterday from Chuck:

Aldebutante was off Wednesday when walking under tack and after doing some exploratory X-rays we found a small chip in the bottom joint of her left knee. The chip is relatively new and will need to come out via arthroscopic surgery.

The prognosis for return to racing on injuries like this for young horses is usually very favorable. Generally it is 90 to 100 days before returning to training after surgeries like these. We will have Dr. Chris Johnson of the Woodford Vet clinic in Lexington do the surgery and will rehab her at BEC.

Dr. Johnson has done great work for me before and is an excellent surgeon. I am sending him the digital xrays that we took of her today and he will set up a time and date for her surgery. Obviously this is a set back but her age and the size and placement of the chip should keep this a fairly minor surgery and recovery.

Chuck

This obviously is frustrating given how well Aldebutante worked Tuesday and how much she has grown in the last 2 months, but it's still very early in her career and she should be back in full training around April 1. More after Dr. Johnson examines her x-rays.

Bad news for the girl, but at least it's something readily correctable, and we'll see her back next summer.

Dr. Johnson will remove the chip from Aldebutante's left knee Wednesday morning. She was transported to the clinic this afternoon and will likely remain overnight before returning to Bethani's supervision at B.E.C. Thursday. More as soon as we hear after the arthroscopic procedure.

Email has gone out to '03' partners with good news from late yesterday regarding Aldebutante's surgery... It was successful, without complications, and Dr. Johnson expects her to make a complete recovery. Without any issues, she should be back in training in 90 days or so.

He removed the chip in her RIGHT knee, (I had been reporting left), and found no ligament damage. Johnson further reported only normal wear and tear of a typical 2 year old which he says bodes well to get Aldebutante back 100%.

She stayed overnight at Johnson's clinic and will return to Bluegrass Equine Center later today after an initial bandage change. Estimated costs of the surgery and after-care will be approximately $4,000, so if everything goes our way, Rampillion will pay for her stablemate's care with a win Friday night!

More news as 'Deb returns to B.E.C... Chuck will likely add more information when he has an opportunity as well.
