Default US Airways plane down in Hudson River

Watching now on CNN live. Seems all in one piece and its on the surface. Throwing life jackets in with 4 ferrys all around it.

Flying from NYC to Charlotte. 100 people on board.

pilot did an amazing job keeping the plane in 1 piece and to keep from it flipping when it hit. I'd say they're due a pretty good size bonus for that one.

Never heard of both engines going out on an A320 before. Flown on them dozens and dozens of times and been thru cockpit before... basically whole plane's flown with a joystick from a video game.

Birds are out of control here in Albany, never seen it like this. The trees in the State Campus are all covered in them. They must be all messed up by the extreme cold and trying to get further south.

I am ok with that. This crew, passangers and rescue crews all deserve to be lauded. Think about the death and devestation that is usually linked with plane crashes. It's great that this near tragedy has a happy ending. It's nice to have a positive story with all the negative crap going around. Besides they will only be able to beat it to death for so long. Somebody new is moving into the White House. Remember all the coverage for 2 black coaches in the Super Bowl? This is slightly bigger.

just said that the pilot's a former F-4 pilot and that he said it was a multiple bird strike.

not only was he an F-4 pilot, but was a commander at red flag. That would be the equivalent of being the commander from the movie top gun.... best we've got in the air force.

thing is, i don't mind actual news-if they have something to add, fine. it's all the time that they feel they have to fill with speculation while waiting for something concrete to tell us.

Anyone interested in hearing some of the FDNY's radio traffic following the crash can check it out here:

I guess this qualifies as an air crash Red Board, but my partner ( business you pervs) had a friend on the flight and he spoke with him about an hour after. I had told Patrick about the crash and he knew Pat (Patrick's friend)fom NY and was worried. Called and left a VM saying glad your phone is ringing, but please let me know you are not on this flight. About 45 Min later Pat calls Patrick.."I just got off the wing, all I have is my phone, my wife is crying ( and he was too)...got your message and holy sh.it"..

Said he was up front and heard loud bang and then the pilot came on and said they were making a sharp left turn and that there would be a rapid descend. Then said to brace as he had lost control and would try and make a water landing. Mostly silence but many prayers. A big impact and then people going nuts. It started out orderly but then water was rising and it was crazy. Pat said he climbed over seats to get to the escape hatch but there were many people in the water or on the wing.

He's on Amtrak tomorrow home

Default Wild story......

Amazing job by the pilot, and he walked the length of the plane like 3 times to make sure everyone got off safe. He's a true hero in my book!

It wasn't a just a multiple bird strike, he ingested a whole flock. I've seen serveral engine tests in person when they have tested shooting frozen birds into the engine. It was either some big ass birds or a great number of them. Nice job by the crew.

Are they planning on dressing up like geese and protest marching at the airport? god, I wish they would! A live feed from that would be fantastic.

no question the pilot deserves a medal

it will be interesting to hear the black box and see if the crew thought about trying to land at nearby Tetaboro Airport , they must have thought they were going down fast and weren't going to make it

For those of you not in the tri state area - tetaboro is in NJ just north of the meadowlands
