Can you explain the rule in New York as to when 2 horses are coupled in the wagering. For example: West Virginia and Flower Alley in the Whitney--will they be coupled or not. If not then why not? Thanks in advance.

Simple. In stakes races ONLY!!! horses who are trained by the same trainer and owned by seperate interests are not coupled in the wagering. In a stakes race where two horses are owned by the same guy and trained by two different trainers they are still coupled. In all other races horses who are trained and owned by common interests(whether it be trained, owned, or both) are coupled.

Flower Alley and West Virginia wont be coupled because they are owned by different owners.

I am not sure on the exact rule because Shake the Bank and Better Talk Now seem to be able to get away with running uncoupled and they are owned and trained by the same people.

Usually when the same owner and trainer has 2 courses in the same race, they are coupled.
