Default Cutbacks?

Seems like a number of recent winners cutting back from Route to Sprint at Aqueduct.

Any thoughts on what key factors to look for on a playable cutback? Trainer %, projected race flow, previous success at the distance, etc.?

I seem to have trouble finding the right ones to play consistently.

Thanks

The Aqueduct of this year is not the same one we've come to know in the past. I usually play on weekends and an occasional afternoon during the week if I'm telecommuting.

It's been very cold this winter and it seems like the track is very tiring. I think now more than ever it's a good idea to tape the races and watch the replays as there are a lot of times the pp's don't tell the whole story.

I've made a few nice scores this winter but there are times that I feel totally clueless playing the inner track.

Throat would probably be the best one to answer your question.

Here's an, after the fact, example of what I consider a perfect cutback situation. Today's 5th at PHA.
Bonheur

two back, he's sets the pace in a 2turn mile and collapses (in a wipeout)

last out, 8.5F, he's chasing the pacesetters, is the only to move early, when they're still strong, and then backs up late, in a race that goes 1-2 around the track

today, he had the rail and figured to get a trip behind faster horses early going 7F.

He wasn't fast enough to contest early, sat perfectly inside/behind all the way around the track, and got up at the wire.

What does the number to the right of the horses name/number indicate on the side of the graph. I think I have an idea but not at all sure. Thanks.
