Sis City breezes into retirement In little more than 30 minutes on Saturday morning at Saratoga Race Course, Grade 1 winner Sis City went from possibly making another start on the turf to retirement. Winless in six starts since capturing the 2005 Ashland Stakes (G1) at Keeneland Race Course last spring, Sis City breezed six furlongs over the main track at Saratoga Race Course in 1:15.04, after which trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. said a possible start on the Saratoga turf -- possibly within the week -- was in her future. A half-hour later, Dutrow said Sis City would be retired to co-owner Stonerside Stable's farm in Paris, Kentucky. "We're going to stop on her," Dutrow said. "She's done with racing." Earlier, Dutrow said he was "satisfied with the filly. "I don't think it matters what we do anymore," Dutrow said. "I don't think that she is going to do what she did when she was late in her two-year-old, early three-year-old years. "We tried everything in the world, she's been training like a stake horse every day, but I don't understand it, but I don't need to understand it," Dutrow said. "I have tried to put my best people around her, they all tell me how great she is, Edgar (Prado) loved the way she ran last time on the grass [a fourth-place finish in the Capades Stakes on July 14 at Belmont Park]." Sis City was claimed from a maiden race for $50,000 as a two-year-old and went on to win five of 15 starts and earn $795,764. In addition to the Ashland Stakes, Sis City won the 2004 Demoiselle Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct and 2005 Davona Dale (G2) at Gulfstream Park, and finished third in the 2005 Frizette Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park.--Warren Alber |

![]() it's a shame she can't go out with a win but kudos to the connections for letting her tell them she's done. Best of luck to her in her next career.

![]() I can't change the headline but Impy has been retired too.....
From BH..... Imperialism Retired to Florida's Get Away Farm by Margaret Ransom Steve Taub's three-time grade II winner Imperialism has been retired and sold, trainer Kristin Mulhall revealed Saturday, and will take up stud duty at Get Away Farm in Ocala, Fla., for the 2007 breeding season. The 5-year-old son of Langfuhr hasn't hit the board in five starts since winning the Pat O'Brien Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) at Del Mar nearly a year ago. "He retires perfectly sound," Mulhall said. "He just wasn't as into racing as he used to be so we decided it was time." Imperialism, a gray son of the Pass the Tab mare Bodhavista, began his career in Florida, then was purchased privately by Taub before the 2004 Triple Crown. In his first start in Taub's colors, Imperialism won the San Vicente Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita, followed by the San Rafael Stakes (gr. II). After a second-place finish via disqualification in the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) Imperialism became the first Kentucky Derby (gr. I) starter for Mulhall, then 21. He finished a game third behind eventual champion Smarty Jones and grade I winner Lion Heart. He also finished second in the 2005 Strub Stakes (gr. II) and third in the 2004 Hollywood Derby (gr. IT). From 29 starts overall, Imperialism won six times, with five seconds and three thirds, for earnings of $899,772. "I'm going to miss him, definitely," Mulhall said. "He was my first 'big' horse and he was special in a lot of ways. But I'll be sending mares to him and will have some Imperialism babies in a couple of years, so that's good." Imperialism is set to leave Mulhall's shedrow bound for Florida on Tuesday. A stud fee has yet to be determined. |
