![]() Medaglia D' Oro to a Roar mare.
Rachel Alexandra is by MDO out of the Roar mare Lotta Kim. Yesterday, She's Our Annie - a 3yo daughter of MDO out of the Roar mare Girl Gone Crazy tore through six furlongs in 1:09 flat at Oaklawn Park and posted a 104 Beyer in the Prima Donna Stakes for her 3rd straight win. Don't expect She's Our Annie to be a big factor going long - her dam's only career win came at the distance of 2 furlongs - and her lifetime top Beyer was just a 34. Every Roar mare worth $500 will now be bred to MDO. |

![]() The MDO may get her a mile but that filly looks like a nice sprinter and as we have seen with fillies like Xtra Heat and Indian Blessing, there are plenty of nice opportunities for good sprinting fillies.
( Before the pitchforks come out, I am NOT drawing a comparison here!! Just mentioning that the filly sprinter division has come into it's own.)

![]() Some people might not remember this - but Medaglia D' Oro actually broke his maiden at Oaklawn Park getting 6 furlongs in 1:11 flat and running a huge 101 Beyer. Dave Vance trained him.
He was bought privately by Frankel and won the San Felipe next out at something like almost 10/1 odds. The mightily overrated Siphonic was creamed in the betting that day and totally lost all chance at the start. |

![]() MDO had rateable spped and stretched out pretty well in spike of being quick at 6f. As we have seen with TOFP and others this season it's not easy to get a 100+ BSF early in your career and 6f and translate that into a future as a router.

![]() Horses like Funny Cide and Smarty Jones weren't taken seriously as 2yo's despite running triple digit figures sprinting because they both came in wire-to-wire wins of restricted races.
This One's For Phil certainly has rateable speed. I know the Thoro-Graph people are saying he bounced like he figured to and even blamed his stall injury from the stress his big win caused. They warmed him up pretty excessively in the pre-race like he was about to run five furlongs. Obviously they wanted the lead for some reason - and TOFP was yet again not comfortable at all on the lead. He's proven throughout his career he's clearly better with a target. It's light years easier for a horse who can run a triple digit sprinting to have a good career routing than it is for a horse who can only run an 85 sprinting to have a good career routing. A lot of times the big figure ones have the look of obvious no-brainer sprinters though. Quality Road for instance - ran a 101 in his debut at 6.5fs - and wasn't even nominated to the triple crown. Heck - the big race took so little out of him that he didn't even suffer a stall injury from the stress of it. |

![]() Quote:
He went out in a stupid 1:08 for the 6f segment or 109.4 from the gate. He had Prado on his back and Quality Road at his neck! He was "supposed to" (in my incorrect imagination) let Quality Road and whoever (NOTSP Tacorub etc..) burn themselves out and have a finesse ride carefully just off the pace. Quality Road ran back his maiden and ran a top class mile. QR was best regardless. However I'm not convinced that TOFP is a good router. If he has an easy trip sure he could blow away a field at a shorter route of maybe 1 1/16th or something. It would be much much more interesting to see this horse rate and explode, than waste his energy early. Prado, even if he didn't have the best horse, at least screwed the form on this one and Alma D'oro. Dutrow needs to stop giving him horses. |

![]() Unraced.
Seems like the only one of the three Roar mares bred to MDO who isn't a rising star. |

![]() One of the beauties of horse racing is that a great horse can come from anywhere . And one of the allures is to find that genie in a bottle .
